Hi, welcome to BCF.

Needs more flux.

Presumably you have documented Bennetts' refusal to remedy the issue before you paid for it to be done elsewhere?

Best of luck recovering that money from them. Invoice Arrow letter before action Arrow https://www.moneyclaim.gov.uk/web/mcol/welcome.

Beware of your safety on one of their used bikes. I bought a 999S Ducati from them. I had run it about 200 odd miles. When I put the bike in the check the front brakes it was found that the timing belts had been fitted wrong and the front had already moved 2 teeth because of this. Obvious to say if the bike had seized up on a corner or even on a straight. Russell Bennett was rude, obnoxious are admitted they had not checked the timing belts on his pre delivery inspections. It ended up costing me over £300 extra to change the belts and have them fitted properly.
I don't believe Bennetts had fitted the belts, but you would have thought they would check the timing belts on a 1000cc twin Ducati before selling it on.

Im now looking into legal action, something has to be done before someone is seriously hurt.

My opinion is go somewhere else who will consider your safety.

Smells fishy...

I might send them an email and ask them for the other side of the story...

Marked as "Off Topic", this isnt worthy of "Biking News & Issues".

I accidentally gave it boring, well I aimed for ''Off Topic''. Sorry for that. Thumbs Up

OP's post is not News, nor a Issue in term of a motorcycle related article.

It could also be marked as ''Spam'' since it could have economical subtext, in which the OP is from a different shop, trying to defame his competitor. But, let's not go this way. Thinking

I used to live in Barnsley and have bought a bike from them. Never again.

I bought my first bike from there. It was OK. My experience with the dealership was pretty good. I didn't have any problems with bike other than throwing it down the road.

I don't know anything about ducatis, but are timing belts not something checked and replaced as a full service item? Certainly requires much messing about to inspect on a ford mondeo. Are they on pdi checklists?

They're a 'feature' of Ducatis. Belt change is every 2 years or 12,000 miles. There looks to be a significant amount of stripping down required on the 999 just to get to them, let alone in replacing them. Which begs the question...

What, when checking the brakes? "Yeah, bad news, pal, we decided to strip your bike down on our own time and..." Laughing

No reasonable person would seriously expect that a dealer would actually check the belts as part of PDI on a used bike. They've either been replaced within 2 years / 12K, or they haven't and therefore needed doing (and the bike was sold and should have been bought on that basis).

OP hasn't bothered to tell us what the service history says - or doesn't say. I'll go ahead and assume that it shows that the belts were due for replacement. If they weren't, then he might have a leg to stand on.

Wouldn't have though a bike would run that well with a timing belt 2 teeth out, if at all.

Sure, it's as likely that garage #2 are at it as dealer #1.

OP checked this all himself, of course... Very Happy

OP did you thoroughly check the bike before you bought it? Maybe you would have noticed the problem yourself before drooling over the first bike you see.
