hi everyone, im new here. I have been riding for about six months now. i own a Honda NSR 125 RR '00 model in nastro azzuro colors Smile
I thought i would break the ice with a little story that happened today. Very Happy

I was out riding about earlier today and it has been windy all day (could feel the wind pushing my bike slightly when stopped at traffic). On my way home on a straight road there was this massive gust of wind blowing the right side of my bike and it made the bike direct itself into parked cars on the side of the road. I have never felt the wind that strong before...but it bloody scared the c**p out of me. had to counter balance it and probably looked like i was taking a corner on a trackday...lol.

i was just wondering if any of you have experienced really strong wind while riding that has nearly caused an accident or do you even ride when it is reallly windy?

Cheers!

I went over a bridge at about 70mph last year and the wind pushed me across the two lanes of dual carriage way and into the barrier. Tried to turn out of it and slow down but I ran out of road. I slid down the road after being chucked off the bike on impact. Luckily I was fine, just bruised. Bike wasn't to good. Took the front wheel and hub off on impact scratched all my panels! Ever since then I have been paranoid about wind!

yeah dont forget dude, your bike gets lighter and lighter at high speed, so with the wind blowing, you can easliy come off it. low speed is best.

yes mate

working in liverpool before christmas

turned into where i was was going to park the bike

and a gust of wind nearly blew me into a parked car.

also i have been over the cat and fiddle before and have had to steer against the wind as it was trying to blow me over the side of the road..

once on the rs125 and once on the gsxr400.

i noticed when passing the pub that an old lady couldnt get through the pub door as the wind was that strong.

she had her arms out stretched just trying to walk through the door.

not fun up there on a light bike probably bad in a car when it's blowing a gale

easy to get caught out up there with the weather conditions

when you are going slowly in the wind you feel it a lot more. Was scary as fook today. I was trying very hard to keep it in the right lane, and cornering was shockin.

Find it easy enough to control, just by pushing your knee against the opposite side of your tank, and pushing down a little on the wind side footpeg.

I have been over Rannoch moor and along the coast road on Skye when the wind has been positivley dangerous. Watching a line of bikes taking a sharp left hander whilst leaning over to the right is most peculiar.

On Rannoch moor it actually lifted my fully laden GPZ500s off the road at one point.

Go slowly, but not too slowly, the higher the speed at which your wheels are rotating, the more resistance to movement they have. The faster the bike is going, the further off course you are blown before you can respond. There is a balance.

The moment where you are leaning quite far over to the right, whereupon a sudden gust hits your right hand side, leading you to ground the peg to keep going round the corner is quite a scary one, at least it was for me with my immovable pegs. Smile Having said that, it was probably an over-correction on my part.

Its pretty scary.
Going back home (west bound on M62) there is a section near Warrington where there is no protection from the wind at all.

Feels like it was pushing the bottom of my bike sideways across the road. Was doing it so much it felt like I was going to lose it a few times. (Pissing rain as well)

Keeping the speed at about 60 seemed to be the best way of coping with it.

Must have looked well dodgy from behind, as my bike was all over the lane.

True.

But there's more of them for the wind to catch.

An unfaired bike is best in crosswinds - the wind flows through the bike, where as a full fairing just acts like a sail.

And yes, NSRs are crap in strong winds. I've been blown many times into the other lane on a section of the A9 near Blackford. Horrible when it happens.

But the ER-5 is much better. Hardly even notice crosswinds anymore.

Oh, and welcome to the board Thumbs Up

Sportsbikes are best in the wind as the closer you get to lightspeed, the nearer you become to becoming infinately heavy, man.

I bloody hate the wind. I ride down a 3 lane dual carriageway everyday going to and from work.
I often try to hit at a ton (just to releve stress before and after work).
I tried that today, Bad idea. The bloody wind nearly blew me into the central barrier.
I bloody hate the wind Evil or Very Mad .
I would rather ride in heavy rain.
