Remove VAT from BS EN compliant safety clothing for motorcyclists

PLEASE SIGN: https://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/70433

Despite having BS EN compliance safety clothing for motorcyclists attracts full rate VAT.
This tax deters motorcyclists from investing in products that may save their life or reduce the severity of an accident.
Each motoring fatality is calculated as costing £1.78M.
Motorcycle helmets that meet 25 year old standards are VAT free but the latest inflatable safety over jackets that meet standards established in 2013 are not.
HMRC simply state that their formal instruction in Public Notice 701/23 does not to allow a dispensation.
Our petition is for this notice to be quickly amended to reflect product developments and to seek to reduce the physical and public cost of motorcycling accidents and fatalities.

Helmets are compulsory, jackets aren't. Want to open that can of worms?

Cakes are VAT free but they're not compulsory, despite the size of most middle-aged bikers suggesting otherwise.

I'm surprised the French haven't made it compulsory to have a white flag flying from the back of the bike!

Don't be daft, the OP likely won't comment again (If they do, they'll probably founce in a few days after they have their views challenged in this thread). They have no interest in being part of the community, more just spamming their (silly) petition.

You only mention airbag jackets in your petition, and only the BS standard.

What about CE (Level 1/Level 2) approved:

Once piece Leathers
Gloves
Boots
Two piece leathers
Leather jackets
Back protectors
Chest protectors

I'm not suggesting any of these be made compulsory, but your petition reads like it was scribbled on the back of a fag packet in a Weatherspoons. Thumbs Up

Also, what is BS EN in terms of motorcycle protective clothing? Assume you mean BS EN 13595:2002? The top google hit when searching for BS EN in terms of motorcycle clothing is your petition indicating that those airbag jackets that are approved by it, aren't advertising it very well, or use crap SEO.

It's already open and wriggling. You cannot now obtain a motorcycle license without:

motorcycle boots or other sturdy footwear that provides support and ankle protection
textile or leather motorcycle trousers or heavy denim trousers
a textile or leather motorcycle jacket or a heavy denim jacket with several layers underneath
motorcycle gloves
