With the heavy rain and clouds. As well as living in a heavy urban area, should I bother to look up for Halleys comet tonight?

Next time it comes round is 2065 apparently.

You is confused, you can't see the comet but there are some meteorites possible as we are going through the route it takes while orbiting.
It was a piddling thing in 1985.

Apparently We'll be able to see some of the meteors around midnight. Could be up to 30 an hour.

Its 22.20 now, so in about an hour and a half... Coming out of Orion apparently which rises in the East at about the same time...

On that; https://books.google.co.uk/books/about/?id=Yx05nwEACAAJ&redir_esc=y ; finding out it had been written relatively recently actually endeared it to me more.

Just went across the common. Saw a good few little streaks but they were faint and very fast.

Impressive though, if a little cold.

When the comet flys round the sun, the tail is debris that is ejected as it is heated by the sun. Although the comet is long gone, this debris field of dust floats around.

As the earth goes round the sun, once a year, the earth passes through this debris, and causes the dust to burn up in the atmosphere when it is caught by the earths gravity.

It's the burning up of the dust in the atmosphere you can see. Every now and then, if you're outside for long enough, youll see something a bit bigger than average dust, and see a spectacular fireball.

Tut Tut - as wikipedia quotes "..death-by-seawater climax is weak and contrived though".
