They are utter cretins and i hope they go bump
quoted from another forum of tesco's tricks
Many of the tactics Tesco use on their suppliers are underhanded. Take packaging for example .... at one time our packaging costs were greater than our labour costs because of the high oil price with plastics, the only way to stay competitive was to buy packaging in BIG bulk numbers. One of our friends putting produce in to tesco had to package in white cartons .... no one ever packaged in to white cartons but Tesco insisted. About eight weeks down the line Teco changed their colour scheme to green and insisted that within 7 days all white packaging was out. Result .... friend landed with 100,000's of packaging that no one wanted plus having to put his hand in his pockets from new packaging .... it's unethical treatment towards any supplier is that imo. Tesco and the likes get away it because people become tied in to Tesco and then because they are dealing with a fresh product they cant afford to have it on their hands
If Tesco over order their goods, they don't let the supplier know... instead they try to find fault with the consignment on delivery. I'm not sure what it is now but it used to be three faults and the buyer could reject. It's a fresh product, of course you could find three faults ... size, shape, temp, packaging, missed delivery slot, paperwork ... take your pick. Then there are the OTT credit terms ... scandalous.
It might be business, but karma catches up with you eventually ____________________ '00 Aprilia RS50 > '92 Honda CG > '99 Yamaha Fazer > '91 Yamaha RXS > '79 Suzuki X5 > 01' Honda Cg > 07' Honda Cg > 82' Kawasaki Z200 > suzuki gsxr 400 gk73a > honda vfr 400 NC30 Mod 2 Passed 09/06/2011

Lidl and Aldi are allegedly awful; I imagine Tesco have been taking notes. |
The staff at my local Aldi seem pretty happy and have been there as long as I remember. Going by the job adverts on the door, they pay fairly well for a supermarket too.
I use Aldi rather than Tesco's because it just seems more honest and most of the food is pretty good quality. I want plain cheap pricing, not isles littered with fluorescent "Super Value", "Great Offiers" type badges and signs. I don't like the way Tesco's, Adsa etc prey on the terminally thick with "great value, bulk buy" offers, which are often more expensive than buying less. Good examples are things like HP sauce, where the massive plastic bottles are advertised as "Big Saver" when the smaller glass bottles are actually cheaper per 100ML. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

I think the reason for Tesco's demise is that they and Morrisons and the others have turned shopping into a battle of wits.
With all the special offers, multi-buys and BOGOF deals, the weekly shop becomes a maths test. You need your wits about you to do the sums and to know if you really are getting a good deal.
And don't even get me started on loyalty card nonsense. Why dress up doling out points as a benefit, why not cut the bleeding prices?
Aldi and Lidl are straight forward, you're not dazzled by excessive choice (who wants to decide between 50 different breakfast cereals?) and pricing is consistent.
Thankfully consumers have wised up to the tricks the established supermarkets have been using. About time too ____________________ Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you're probably right |

Well their turn over was:
£63,557,000,000
Of which they made
112,000,000
Which is awful. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will. In the end, your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching. |

Glad to see somebody trying to put the figure in context, rather than making the rather obvious point that 112 million quid is a lot of money in absolute terms.
Your point about it being awful is correct, but I think you'll find that first-half revenues were 34 billion, not 63.6bn. That's a pretax margin of 0.32%, about as low as it is possible to get without making a loss. By comparison, Aldi posted sales of 5.27bn in 2013 and pretax profit of 260.9 million, so a margin of 4.9%.
Looking at that comparison I don't know what planet you'd have to live on to still think Tesco's making a lot of money. A deeply naive one, I suspect. ____________________ Kawasaki KMX200 with broken fixed powervalves and a stutter |
