Some watch engineering porn for a clock thread.

Give it 30 seconds and you will be hooked.

Over $3 million each! At that price, do they allow you to tell the time or travel in it?

Come on, I was trying to get a new wrist watch for months, couldn't decide what brand or even movement. I completely forgot about it and now the idea of new wrist watch is back. Razz

Behind a fairly hideous housing Sad I do like mechanical watches, though I don't have anything particularly flash; a couple of Seikos; an SKX007 diver and an SNK807 for a slimmer watch that fits under a glove more easily, both on NATO straps. A bit of careful setting up and they are good for a couple of seconds a month accuracy. A quartz would be cheaper and more accurate, but there is something rather beautiful about the engineering of a "proper" watch, reassuringly old technology in a world dominated by ultra-high-tech that is constantly on the verge of failing in an expensive and disposable way.

I can understand some of the price of high end watch movements. I find it harder to understand how Seiko can knock out watches based on the 7S26 for so little (even though the assembly is automated). Compare £50 retail for a wonderful piece of precision mechanical engineering with hundreds of precisely machined parts, with £50 retail for a bit of neoprene sewn onto a fairly crude bracket (Urbano muffs that I've been looking at recently). It really doesn't compute!

There's no point in remembering anymore. I don't have one thing in my house that didn't change time automatically. Shocked

I like mechanicals as well
I have a 1939 Thomas Russells & Son solid gold case
and 1970s Baume Incabloc also in solid gold

Both worn regularly because watches should be used

My computer changed automatically but my smart phone is fooked so using a cheapo £10 one that needed changing. All the clocks in my house needed changing and then there was my car and motorbike clocks.

I think it's a stupid idea moving an hour back an forth and who ever thought of it needs a kick in the gentlemen's region Mad
