What's the maddest thing you've ever ridden? I've mentioned the H2 I had on numerous occasions, so won't bore you with it anymore. But has the craziest bike you've ever ridden altered your whole outlook on bikes and biking?

I had a go of an RG500 a few years ago on an industrial estate. This was just before I got my RS125, so I had done a few lessons and was very comfortable on a bike. Floored it at low cruising revs in third gear and thought "Pretty quick but expected faster", then it hit the power and the front shot up and I don't think I've ever been that scared in my life. Would love another go.

Gonna sound kinda lame but at the time it was a Gilera Runner 172. I'd had my CBT all of ten minutes and turned up on my Speedfight 100 (sorry, I'll get my coat) which I'd been riding sensibly all day during the CBT to see a mate. "ace, giz a go. here's my keys". Top heavy, compared to the Pug, and a 172 kit was enough to see me shit myself.

My old blade and a 99 R1 were good but for shear terror its either a Yamaha raptor quad or my mates racing polini minimoto which done about 70mph and evil when it hit the powerband with your knees under your armpits.

Most powerful was a test ride on the new KTM Superduke. It was a good bike but I prefer my zed.

Hmmm? thinks? all the loony bikes I`ve ridden have been stroker Confused .

I had a Bultaco Pursang that was a bit of a nutter Thumbs Up
I had a CZ 250 Crosser for a short while, that was scary Smile

On the road : I guess my mates H2,.. it used to squirm in a straight line once it`s revs got into the angry zone Shocked
Sod going round corners on it.
I recon the tyres were`nt that good? , but it still used to shuffle on at a fair old lick Smile

All that said about his H2, he used to ride it like he stole it and never had a crash on it .

Same here. Full power 2 strokes still have the edge in loony-ness in my memories. Everything these days seems bland in comparison.

He must have been one of the lucky few! Laughing
Actually, I never crashed mine, but probably more by luck than judgement. Every ride was a risk of proportions I've never experienced on anything else, and you couldn't relax for an instant.

Having ridden such machinery, it's always the bikes with crazy power delivery that appeal to me now though, hence wishing I had the dosh for a 1290 KTM, or another big stroker. So much for growing old gracefully Rolling Eyes

When I test rode one it felt quick but was easy to ride. It's got electronics to control the power so is quite tame really.

Honda SP1 with an open harris system on it. It wasn't actually that powerful, maybe 120bhp but the drama with which it accelerated alongside the lowish redline made it feel batshit insane. My faster ZX9 just kind of wooshed along like a rolls by comparison.

I've never experienced another 'legal' motorcycle that's put out as much noise and vibration both forwards and back.

Kawasaki 500 stroker MX bike, evil thing, can't understand how you'd ride one flat out in a race. Don't think I got further than 3rd gear.

WWII paratrooper folding motorcycle thing. No weight, no grip and a throttle stuck open whilst dodging between tents full of munitions and men with .577 Enfields and footlong bayonets...

Need to get my ass on a proper mad bike.

As far as fun bikes go that can/will bite back, the KTM 350 Enduro I had is a good candidate.

350cc 2 stroke without a powervalve. Most of the time it just span the rear when you hit the powerband, but occasionally it'd dig in and bugger off.

The KTM 200s I have/have had do produce power in a similar manner, but at a bit lower level.
On the 350 you could make pretty decent progress staying below the powerband - you're talking peak power of an XR250 before the power starts to build properly in a lighter bike!

While we're on it; what are people's experiences with modern 250cc motocross 2 strokes?
I was pretty disappointed with a CR125 - flatter than I was expecting and not too far off my 144XC.
Read that the 250SX is a bit of a powerbandy animal, but don't know about others.
