Afternoon all,

South West based noob here, I have been lurking for a month or two picking up lots of useful information but thought it was time to say hi.

Currently doing DAS, mod 1 passed, mod 2 lined for a few weeks time.
I'll try to refrain from posting loads of bike A or bike B threads after but I cant promise it wont happen! Wink

Thanks everyone. Funnily enough im more nervous about the mod 2.

I had zero prior bike experience so I need to make sure I nail all the proceedures on the road!

I'll lay out my thinking on bikes when (touch wood..) I have passed...!

If I had to do either mod1 or mod2 again I'd choose the former every time. So much more of it is in your control, whereas any whacky shit can go off in 2, not to mention it's about four billion times longer. But you'll be cool - the psychological advantage of having over half of it in the bag (i.e. counting theory) is a big help.

Couldn't agree more, I sailed through Mod1 like a boss!
And it was over before I had time to worry about it.

For Mod two, I was shitting my self the whole ride expecting the unexpected the whole time for no reason.

You'll be fine, just try your best to relax

Yeah - first time was hell. Second time, for whatever reason, was night and day different - not sure whether due to the examiner's superior bike-side manner, or just more practice, or both. But all favourable conditions prevailed and I sailed it - would've got a clean sheet except for a slight wobble waiting to make a right turn (I was getting cocky and refused to put a foot down).

I think il try to get as much on road experience as I can before the test.

I have lined two days tuition with the test on the afternoon of the second day.

I might look at renting a 125 from the place and pootling around that on a Saturday practicing.
It will be strange hopping between the 125 and the 600 but the more road time the better I guess!

I over thought my mod 2.
I had a list of things to do and not do.
In the end I just rode how I normally would and chucked in life savers when they needed to be done.
My main problem pre test was keeping distance but I think I only made that mistake the first 2 mins and after that didn't do it again.
Nearly bottled it at the end but really it was easier than the mod one.
I was so nervous on the mod 1 and normally I could do that course with one hand on the bars and one hand on my hip:) but not that day , I was cacking it Smile
Good luck

Whats the quality of the head sets they give you like?
A friend of mine said he ended up taking a few wrong turns cause he couldnt hear the instructions.

I have found the instructors radios a bit hit and miss as well, some were crystal clear but others were little better than static!

I had a single earpiece like the ones you see coppers and
bouncers wear that clips over the ear and sits flat against it.
It was perfectly easy to hear but there were a couple of times
around the Kingswood area that my radio set picked up the local
mini cab office as well. Laughing
Are you Bristol based OP? Where are you doing your training?

Yup, based in Bristol.
I have been using the bristol motorcycle training centre as its closer to where i live and have found them good. I have had 4 different instructors so far and all bar one were sound guys.

I sussed out who I have for my next training installments with them so hopefully it should be fine...

Ah I see, I did mine through Phoenix at Whitchurch.
I'm a 40 plus rider but had some experience when I was a young
man. I expect your test will be at Kingswood test centre.
Top tip keep your eye open for 20 zones in the vicinity of the test
centre, you'll likely be taken on one or two of them during Mod 2.
And don't dawdle on the ring road in the 70 sections, they like to see
you make decent progress.
Best of luck.
