Hi. I recently exchanged my Spanish driving license for an UK one and I have the full A license type because they give it to you as well in Spain but you still need another type of license to ride over there.

My question is, do I need the CBT? I ride mountain bike quite regularly and I am thinking on buying the new MT-125 because I wanna go for a smallish bike at the beginning, or is it worth it to go for the full MT-7?

Is there any place where I can practice riding bikes? I have only ridden one a couple of times, thanks.

If you have the full A license then you can ride anything.

Middle Finger Middle Finger to Brussels? Clapping

Careful Now, check the back of your UK photocard license carefully. In the "A" row, is there anything in the notes column. "79 (tri)", for example?

If not, if it's just A with a From: and To: date, then you are indeed good to go.

Any bike school should be happy to take your money for a days' training if you explain your requirements. Worst case you could just do a CBT course. It is training, after all.

If you're intending to buy a bike now I'd go with something cheap like an old 500 twin. Ride it through winter, get your dropping down, then buy newer in the spring. You won't get an MT-07 until next year anyway (according to the dealers I've asked).

There is a 79.03 which indicates that I can only ride tricycle, which rings a bell, because that is exactly what they allow you to ride in Spain.

in the back of my license indicates the code:
122 - valid on successful completion: Basic Moped Training Course
so I guess I still need to pass the CBT, I should start reading what the codes of my license mean.

Depends. If you need credit and think you'll keep the bike for along time then it may be worth it. Otherwise, I'd buy used. You can buy a good Japanese bike for £1500 and get close to that when you come to sell it, providing you've serviced and looked after it.

Sounds like you don't have a full A licence, you just have a Proviosonal A. Which means all you can ride, after doing the CBT course, is a 125cc bike, with L plates, not on motorways and not with a pillion.

It's sad that it needs to be clarified. Sad

In the UK we have relatively high new bike prices, and relatively low used prices. A significant number of used UK bikes get bought and exported.

I wouldn't buy new for a first bike, wait until you've tried a few and know what you want.
