Hi Guys, a couple of months ago I bought a property to let, e-on were the energy suppliers with a pay as you go meter. There was close to £50 owing on the meter due to the daily standing charge, when I rang e-on to set up an account for the property they effectively cleared the debt, when I picked up a top up key it was programmed with the £50 outstanding I topped up £5. Fast forward a couple of weeks, a final bill arrived, I'd already told them we had tenants in the property and gave them their details, the bill was for 14 days standing charge @ 24.78p per day, total £8.09 + 40p vat. I rang them to complain, Ilive in yorkshire, £3 is £3. eventually I was told my debt was cleared, what debt I asked, I was still £1.50 in credit, "your debt is cleared , can I close the complaint". NO said I, anyway the issue has gone to the resolution team, who would dearly like me to accept the matter as closed, with the debt cleared. "I didn't have any debt" I tell them, if I don't accept this the matter will go to the ombudsman for final resolution, which they have to abide by, I don't on the other hand, what do you think, shall I let them off the hook?
By the way, another bill has arrived at the property demanding £50, addressed to "the occupier", I have rung them about this and may make them go through the full proceedure again, if it dosen't get sorted.

A few years ago, I moved into a house with my Mrs. New build, and for 9 months we were trying to get a bill (I had heard of too many cases where someone didn't receive bills and then got smashed with a massive bill). We called British Gas who denied supplying gas to the property. We called all of the other suppliers, and ended up with Transco who were less than helpful. Ultimately, after 9 months (and dozens of phone calls) we got a massive bill (over £600). I phoned up and they were all stating that we had to pay. I explained that the dates that they were trying to charge us for included before we moved in (for the builders). I then pointed out that it was their policy to not transfer balances from one customer to another (at the previous house, I was trying to take over an account, rather than set up a brand new one) so surely they should write this balance off? Then..... silence. Put me on hold, came back and wrote off over £600.

Argue the facts. They make so much money out of overcharging and admin fees and penalties and so on that why should you roll over? Take it to the ombudsman. They will want to avoid that more than you will.

TL;DR - Not your debt - argue it.

So they charged you £8.49. But you only topped up £5 and you think you are £1.50 in credit.....
Where does £3 come into this????

Do you work as a account for the government by any chance Laughing

Why did you simply not get them to remove the PAYG meter and go to a normal tariff Thumbs Up

my gran had n power and british gas trying to charge for gas and electricity at the same time so she paid neither of them for about three years.

Fast forward a few years, after having the balances wiped out n power finally came and fitted some pay as you go meters, we still had british gas threatening to cut us off though until one day they turned up with the bailiffs to find the npower electric key meters in place and were told to fuck off.

Still didn't stop sending the bills though the cnuts.

As I said, we topped up £5, all we owed was 14 days standing charge @24.78p per day, they say we owed £8.49, you do the maths / simple arithmatic, the bill they sent was for £3.13, until that is a further bill for £50 arrivedm sent to "the occupier"

Ah, E-on, the cunts.

I moved into a flat with pre-payed meters one for gas with a smart card (like a credit card) and the other using old style paper cards

letting agents put me on the accounts, no problems

I phoned them up to let them know there was no smart card
they came to fit a new meter taking the plastic fob so I could top up at more locations which was much more convenient, again, I told them there was no smart card for the gas

given that the only thing in the flat that was gas was the lounge fire, I jus t shut the gas off and thought nothing more of it.

two years later I moved out, gave final info and left

a year later I had bailiffs phoning me about the £200 debt on the gas meter, the bailiff laughed when I told him that I'd turned the gas off, never used it and didn't have any way of topping it up - he pointed out there's the daily charge and suggested I phoned eon to sort it out.

had a long argument with the muppet on the phone, being talked over about how I had to pay and I would be paying through court, in the end I just kept repeating the fact that they wanted to charge me for a service they had never provided, had never given me a way to pay for the service to be able to enjoy it's use and perhaps I had a claim to pursue given the two very cold winters…

job done.
