Over the last year or so I have been a downtrained instructor, allowed to conduct CBT's for the company which trained me. But not anymore.

No longer am I downtrained. I have just spent 2 days in Cardington DVSA training academy with 2 other guys completing the CBT1C assessment. I wont lie, it was probably one of the hardest and most stressful things I have ever done. 2 days watching the assessor acting like a trainee (And they are very good at being bad), either instructing or acting as a supervisor assessing one of the other candidates as he instructs.

2 days of hell. 2 days of not knowing if you are going to come out of it at the end with a pass. 2 days of watching "the man" write in his notebook. 2 days of getting your training assessed and mistakes pointed out and 2 days of picking apart other peoples mistakes and correcting their training.

For me, it was do or die. I had to pass as 2 weeks before I was in the very same situation with a migraine on day 1 and a serious misunderstanding with "the man from the DVSA" on day 2 resulting in a fail.

This time I nailed it though. Some very constructive criticism and some very high praise. Some of my instructional techniques he loved and some of my assessor/supervisor techniques he loved.

So pinky is no longer downtrained. I am officially a DVSA approved motorcycle CBT instructor with the ability to open my own school and downtrain up to 10 other instructors to work for me.

Bring on the DAS which enables me to do the above and train students on big bikes.

Congratulations!

The CBT is something I've thought about training to do in a few years time, partially down to having a bit of a crap experience on mine. Guessing you enjoy it as you've taken it further than just being downtrained?

Its the best job in the world. Rewarding, frustrating, stressful at times but I love it. The CBT1C needs done before I can do the DAS one to play on big bikes which is the ultimate goal.

Congratulations Pinky! Hope you continue to enjoy bringing new blood into the game, keeping them alive so biking doesn't die on it's arse and people get the most they can out of it (fun, travel, cut costs, meet people etc).

The futures bright, the futures pink! Very Happy

Sounds like it was quite a tough course to pass but, you've done it now and I bet you're really chuffed with yourself now, as you should be.

Well done and congrats. Thumbs Up

Well done Thumbs Up

Now get back to Cardington and do the DAS so you don't have to potter around after 125s.
