My wife and I have day off of responsibilities on Sunday and, assuming somewhat decent weather, we're going to take ride to the New Forest National Park (from London).

I've not been before. Any particular routes that people can recommend? Any good places to stop for a cuppa, see the views?

I made my way through the New Forest on my way to Bournemouth.

To get there I went down the A24 and picked up the A272.

IMO the 272 was just as good if not better than the the roads through the new forest, so depending on where in London you are coming from it might be worth taking that route? Some properly stunning countryside along certain stretches.

Just be aware, there are horses, donkeys, cows, pigs, deer etc running wild throughout the new forest and they do like to stand in the middle of the road.

Yeah coming round a blind bend at a not careless or dangerous speed but probably a bit quicker than I should have been and there was a New Forest Pony just parked in the middle of the road.

Since then I took the roads inside the cattle grids at a very leisurely pace and kept more enjoyable speeds for roads like the A35. Incidentally Lyndhurst to Christchurch is a good high-speed road for bikes, nice fast corners, very few junctions, plenty of good overtaking spots so you never really get held up.
