Ebay seller paypal hacked?

As above, bought a carb last night and the guy send me a message saying not to use his Paypal as its been hacked and could I send a cheque or PO order instead

Not greatly happy with this obviously. The item finished at 10.40 and he emailed me at almost 3am !! for some strange reason I didn't pay immediately -spidey senses- Ideas/advice ?

Is he communicating via eBay (so there's a record of him trying to change the payment terms)?

My kneejerk reaction would be to tell him that you'll wait until it's "unhacked" rather than going out of your way to send some prehistoric piece of paper which will likely take longer anyway.

Depends how much you want the carb.

Wasn't some guy called JohnGermaine was it? If so avoid avoid avoid! I got scammed over a Scottoiler. First had to resend a Paypal as his 'other account was hacked', then he said money was never received (despite PP saying otherwise) and never sent the item.

He is communicating through Ebay Rog, never having had any problems like this I was a little sceptical too and would rather the Paypal was sorted.

Well, he's unlikely to sell it to anyone else under "cheque or PO" terms, so I reckon I'd still wait to PayPal it.

He's selling other stuff and still has Paypal as a payment method also, what's with the credit card payments are they safe?

He's in North wales apparently, he did send me an address through Ebay messages. Whether it's the same as his paypal I dunno..no invoice!

If someone could pick it up I'd be grateful, not bj grateful but grateful nonetheless I shall await a reply!

Update; Seller has raised an action against me for non payment!

I spoke to Ebay about this at the time and they were pretty good tbh thought it was sorted. Anyway, do I ignore this ? Tempted to pay for the bloody thing but don't know if he'll follow up with the sale.

Is the sale still on!? never had a dispute before, am I in the wrong now?

The only reason he raised a non payment was so that he could recover the final sale fees. You really should have ignored it, there were no consequences.

You are your own worst enemy. Just put a claim in for not received and you should get your money back in a few weeks.

I'm sure with hindsight in your opinion I am but, I posted for advice and got it.

I wanted the carb and don't think its unreasonable to assume someone sorted their paypal in 2 weeks. Also as mentioned previously "Don't ignore it" ... and technically it was an unpaid item!

Check your PayPal account, if it's pending then cancel it as its not correct, it will take over a week to get that back when cancelled.

If the payment has gone through, you're going to have to wait the 30 days, then put in a non received claim and wait for the investigation from PayPal.

Either way you caused yourself hassle by paying an obviously dodgy seller.
