Hi thanks for the replies.
So i went ahead and ordered the rims with tyres, and they arrived a week early!!
the condition of them are very good. I see no signs of previous damage. The front tyre looks a bit cheap, but not worn much. the rear tyre is bridgestone and looks close to new.... I am suprised by that alone.
However where the discs would bolt on, the insides of the threads contain some dried flakey yellow residue, is this an issue?
also the front wheel bearing isnt good, the BB are all hanging at the bottom and its off centre.
Silly question, but it'll be necessary to replace the bearings?
I plan on taking the rims to a shop just to make sure they are gonna be ok to put onto the bike, but would like a heads up if you knowledgable guys can help.
I know its a performance bike, i selected it due to a good oppurtunity came up to buy it.
Thanks for any help, and go easy on me
Also I can add pics of the new rims if that helps |

Put your finger into each bearing, push inwards firmly and turn it. Any gritty or notchy feel of if the centre can rock or is loose it needs changing otherwise just fit.
Yellow crap is threadlock, run a tap through the holes to clean up. Apply threadlock to new bolts. Expect your disc bolts to be very bloody tight to undo, so get a decent hex-key socket and a T bar, ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

oh ok, where can you see that??
ill have that replaced with the new rear from the damaged wheel, if that would be ok..
i noticed a nail in that 'new' rear too. but is it advisable to replace it due to age alone? the rest seems good.
The broken bearing just broke, the outer ring is currently stuck in, so due to my lack of tool, equipment, and technical know how, im gonna get someone to sort the rest.
Im gonna inspect the front tyre again soon, but is it a good idea to replace it anyway?? i mean im just trying not to shell out for everything, but its already alot cheaper than i thought i would be spending cos the rims were hundreds cheaper than anticipated.
Also thanks again, everyones help is greatly appreciated.
anyone know what i could expect to pay, to have
rear tyre changed,
all 4 bearings replaced, (I have new ones ordered)
and all appropriate parts removed from old rims and bolted to new ones?
was gonna call a mobile mechanic man
Kind Regrads,
Mike |
