Just watched the BBC news and the reporting on the withdrawal from Afghanistan. A lot of slop about getting "the job done" some heart warming footage of girls going to school etc. Nothing about the politics behind being there or the real reason we went there. To back up the US in chasing down Al Quida and to punish the Taliban for giving them a base. So ok bumbling along behind the US is pretty shite but chasing down Al Quida and giving a regime that gave them sanctuary is all reasonable given the harm a terrorist organisation can do. So why be so coy about it all and have to dress up the war as some kind of humanitarian mission?

There was a bloke from the British army on the radio yesterday. He was basically saying that as soon as they pulled out the Afghan Army would be defeated almost straight away by the Taliban.

Apparently the Afghan army had lost as many troops in the last month as the British army had lost out there in 5 years. Confidence is very low amongst the national army and many will probably leg it as soon as they don't have the backing.

As every other country has found out when trying to change Afghanistan, it's a terrible waste of time, lives and resources. Cheers Blair...
