Sanding off "Not Highway Suitable" from tyres.

Hello chaps,

What's the best way to go about the above, removing the "not highway suitable" text that's moulded onto the side of tyres? I understand MOT requirement is a letter within a triangle or something similar, and I'm not intending to fool an MOT tester. I'd rather not have the tyres declare they're not road legal in plain text

What's the penalty for using non road legal tyres, it's either CU20 or CU30, right?

I'm swapping over my front tyre to a motocross tyre for greenlaning purposes, picked the tyre up off the bay for a tenner, y'see. Road legal options for my bike, that will stand up to green laning, are extortionately priced. Feel free to prove me wrong though, I ride an XR 125 with the following wheel/tyre dimensions as standard; 90/90 x 19 front and 110/90 x 17 rear.

You might make a good job of getting most of it off with a razorblade, followed by sanding to match the surrounding area.

I don't think any of my offroad bikes ever had a road legal tyre fitted. Never any problems.

Wasn't it a part worn you bought on gumtree from some pikey looking kid?

If so, how could you possibly know it wasn't a road legal tyre given the AC10 is road legal?

won't fool a traffic copper

regular plod seem to be clueless when it comes to dirt bikes, in my limited experience

but if you do run into them, it will likely be when you are trying to do some legal green laning, and they are out in force targeting illegal off roaders, and decide to go over your bike with a fine tooth comb, once they realise they can't just nick you for being a hooligan
