What andy said twice.

No. Tax is now no longer traded with the vehicle.

Hi,

If I declare a vehicle as sorn, can it still be parked in front of my house or do I need to find some other place.

No.....the tax doesn't go with the bike now.

I'm just hoping the DVLA are not complete A-holes with this new system....... This is my situation:-

Bought new bike via ebay auction this week, seller stipulated must pick up within 3 days (before end of oct). I pick bike up on 30th and ask seller to date v5 transfer 1st of november. He won't as he wants his refund which can only be full months....fair enough.
I don't want to pay a full months tax for literally 30 odd hours left of the month. So I trailer the bike home and tax the bike online from the 1st of november.

By rights I should have declared the bike SORN as soon as I picked it up! Obviously if the DVLA make the link that the bike was sold on the 30 but not taxed until the 1st they might want paying.

Hopefully common sense will prevail but who knows with that mob.

Thumbs Up

Given SORN can be done online. Why simply not do it..... Mobile phone a couple of mins. Just to make sure no issue.

Would be so much easier if you could transfer ownership online.

Isn't that a 3 point offence if it's on a public road?

You posted it in a post box that day, not your problem.

If you paid for a bike pre-law change with 11 months tax, and they removed it...

It will take a couple of weeks from when he sends off log book for DVLA to change log book into your name and get it back to you.... it will still show up as taxed so it won't ping any ANPR cameras if you ride it home, admittedly sale date will be on log book , but will they fine you for the sake of just over a day ... Possibly ..

You can check on line, it will still be showing as taxed

Can't see the problem. You phone up and tax from the 1st November, previous owner gets his rebate up from & including November.

DVLA won't have a clue whats going on until V5 drops on their doorstep and you can just say you didn't ride it until 00:01 on the 1 st Nov.

Bike is continuously taxed. Thumbs Up

DVLA doesn't track owners, just keepers. Tut Tut

But... yes. Yes it would.

DVLA recently claimed that online change of keeper is "something we're going to introduce soon", but who knows what "soon" means in Swansea.

They don't even care about them anymore.

I've just taxed a car online, using the V5C/2, while the guy was doing the rest of the paperwork; as there's no tax disc to send anywhere, all they care about is getting the money.

Interestingly, you have no option as to when your tax starts, it automatically goes back to the first day of the current month; I don't know if you could still go into a PO and buy post dated tax, as you used to be able to.

Oh, sure, they got the payment system in place.

Out of interest, why did you pay them one second before you absolutely had to (i.e. when they bother to record the change of keeper)?

He is refunded up to the day when the V5 indicates change of keeper. So if it's the 15th of November when the V5 was signed he will get refunds from the 1st December. You will then have to tax it from the beginning of November so the thieving b*stards in government will get two lots of tax for November and be very happy Thumbs Up
