Trying to lose the squid plates on my 125 to take passengers and all.

I passed my Mod 1 with no errors without any sort of practice beforehand. It all seemed fairly easy (even managed the swerve test at 62kmph).

I've been riding for about five months now and I've clocked up the best part of 3000 miles. I would say I'm a competent novice rider.

Anyway as you know the test costs £75
Where I am a 2 hour lesson costs £65

If I fail the test I can always retake it so this will be either £75 or £150
If I take a lesson first I will be better prepared but it will cost £140 min

So, to simplify:

Is it a silly idea to take the test without any lessons in the hope to save £65?

Note:
If money were no object I would have lessons but as it stands I'm a student. Nuff said about that really.

Nope, it makes sense.

You could take 20 hours of lessons and still nob up the test. The only thing 100% guaranteed is that you're only going to pass the test when you're actually doing the test.

I had a 2 hour lesson
It helped me because everything I did wrong in those 2 hours I didn't do again on the test. Also we covered a lot of the test area which made me familiar with the speed limits, stops signs, roundabouts and general things that could trip you up if you didn't know about them.
I'd been riding a bike for about 8 years in total and had a few bad habits to break out of.
You probably stand more chance passing with the lesson but I don't know your ability.
Just try and concentrate on your road position,do obs when necessary, keep your distance and cancel indicators and its as easy as that really.
You might have a lesson and the instructor will say you are fine and then you might feel you wasted 65 quid Smile

Do you drive a car? It's a much more sensible idea if you already drive, if you don't then I think it'll be difficult to pass.

If it were me, I'd go for the lesson.

Where I did my CBT, I asked about hiring a big bike for Mod1 & 2 - and they offered to give me an 'assessment ride' before booking the Mod2.

I will definitely be doing this - after all, you just need to learn what you need to do to pass the test. If you need lessons on how to be a better rider, do them after you get your Mod2.
