Could go the other way.

Do you see them shifting a lot at that price?

Next thing we'll have ZX10s not in green, GSXRs not in blue and white and exciting Fireblades!

What is the world coming to.

It's fucking hideous, looks like it was designed by a boardroom via a computer. Sports bikes have got ugly and almost generic looking. Bring back the 90's.

Loads. Lots of people won't care about the price just the monthly payment figure. People don't seem to mind not owning stuff anymore and the fact this has so many things that look good on paper despite probably being as necessary as a condom in a convent will make it fly out the show rooms.

Oh yes, I'd forgotten how individual and different they all looked back then.

Oh wait:

Nope. Still pretty generic looking sportsbikes.

The problem is that the second a manufacturer steps outside the norm they are slated for it, take a look at most anything made by BMW for an example!

they have not sold in volume since 2008.. mixture of the ticket price including insurance , peoples disposable income and unemployment or fear of it.. most meets I go to these days are full of less focused smaller cheaper machines..

Looks like. Which is what makes me wonder if prices of used ones will firm up.

This is significant because of wr's point about financing.

I was doing the numbers on the new V-Strom 1000 (because numbers Wub) and it turns out that it's cheaper to ride an R1200GS on finance because of the strong used values.

New supersports sales have been falling, but I honestly don't know if the knock on is lower or firmer used prices.

Yes, I know US prices are without tax, but I'm getting kind of sick of this Dollars to Pounds business. If we weren't getting ripped off it'd be about £3,000 less.

Oh, and this is the real thing:

2008 -2009 saw second hand prices hole .. neither up or down on large cc hypersports bikes largly because of the exchange rate price rise in new bike prices .. think £ 1.5k ... this has left a residual effect along with the shortened supply on prices.. exact £ numbers I couldn't say....
The other things reference supply was a lot of second hand machinery disappeared to Germany and the other European country(s) again because of the exchange euro rates at the time.

I must say from what I`ve seen some older biker types bought their supper dooper bikes and although have since bought smaller cc non focused machines they have kept the hypersports machines too,
with little or no intention of letting them go...
Some of them you cannot get moved in their fcukin garages Laughing

tl.dr this says it all really Pale

Oops, my mistake: it's $16,490 in the US. We're still getting gouged, though.

I like it. Wouldn't say love it, but to me looks vaguely like a Thunderace with a modern facelift. The spec sheet is the really impressive part, this looks like the most effective way to kill kittens yet!

But 15 grand, come on. You can buy all manner of great quality used cars for that, and as much as I love bikes even as a newbie I'd prefer a car, or get a good bike of that type low mileage and a few years old then save over double that price.

Meh... ~9700 (market rate right now) + our VAT + local taxes... £13,866

The gov sucks in taking 20% of everything we buy.

You also have to realise that business take into account potential fluctuations and have to insure themselves against that. Yamaha can't ship 100 bikes out and just pray that the currency doesn't go the opposite way when it's time for payment... They obviously build in a margin to ensure they don't lose out*.

* that's another good reason to join a common currency like the euro, at least for BMWs and Ducatis Smile

I was just thinking that at that price, it becomes worthwhile checking out how much it can be had for in Ewroos. We might as well get some benefit from the common market.

Not sure on how the costs weigh up, but I wonder if they're going to end up selling older models (maybe a little 'detuned', al'la CBR600F) at more reasonable prices as not quite so hardcore examples.

Interesting they're sticking with flat-plane - power figures always seemed to be down with that, but it does sound 'twinny', which many like.

My thoughts last night were:

me wrote:

WTF have they done. Looks like they've tried to out-German the Germans. Stupid lights, square bodywork and the fugliest exhaust known to man.

Will probably grow to like it over time. Thought the 1000r was terrible and now.....no, still think it looks bad.

Just to add a disclaimer to my own opinion. Some bikes often look very different in the flesh. Might think differently when standing next to one.

It wouldn't surprise me if they drop the price in a couple of years. The current version cost £13,400 in 2011 and didn't sell. The revised version with traction control came out in 2012 for £12,500.

Cynicism: they're probably hoping all the Rossi wanna-be's will go gaga over the fact it looks rather like the M1.

About what a S1000RR costs now, so no surprise there!

I get the impression (and from the price) that they're trying to position this between the RR and HP4.
