weekend away from London (south) any ideas

i want to go off on the bike for a weekend somewhere .I live in south London and still new to biking but i fookin love it.
Rode my crossrunner from Poole to London in a deluge at night washed off the motorway ended up on a41 protected by trees ...nearly lost my bottle several times but sat the trip down and have improved as a rider since...
Thing is now i fancy a trip but given that my longest trip ever is from poole to London i want something achievable but not motorway as it just doesn't rock my boat.. (confidence thing,im ok with it but ..)
so all suggestions welcome..

I used to find that if I wanted a longer ride from London in the south, the A272 is not a bad road, especially as you get further west towards Winchester, which is quite a nice little town too. If history's your thing, it used to be the seat of the old Anglo-Saxon kings, so worth a nosey around. You're not so far from the New Forest there too.

You could ride over to Canterbury (avoiding all major roads) head out to the coast and ride the coast all the way over to Worthing...you won't be disappointed. From Worthing ride to Arundel (check out the castle) and go up the A29, up to the A272, turn right and ride it to the end. Then head home.

I spent the weekend in Minehead in the summer, nice little town. A few B&Bs to pick from. You got Exmoor National Park to ride round. Lynton is a also a nice little town to stop for a break, and if your on the A39 into lynton you over look the town and sea, it was a great view and i had to remind myself to look at the road. Met up with a guy from the forum, with who we met a facebook group in Taunton and rode from there to Bideford. Don't know what route we took but was a good ride. Again a nice town to visit. Wish i'd used the GoPro.

Why not pootle down to Portsmouth, follow the signs for the Isle of Wight car ferry then spend the weekend on there. Then you can tell people you have been overseas on your bike.

ps, no strapping down of bikes, you just park it like you would at the side of the road.

Do you have a full licence? You can be in Northern France within 2 hours of London (an hour down to Folkestone then hop on the Chunnel), loads of nice places to ride around there, find a cheap french B&B for the night, leave early Saturday morning, back Sunday evening

Camber Sands, massive sandy beach. A21 - A268
Come back along A259 to Eastbourne, checkout the Seaford Road and Severn Sisters Country Park. That road blew my mind first time, really great views (on a sunny day).

Hengistbury Head - Christchurch. Nice beach, great views.
A24 - A272 (to Winchester) - A3090 - New Forest, zig-zag through it, don't spend too much time on main A35 or A337 (checkout Beaulieu Road, Ornamental Drive and the B-Roads).

A272, A281, A283, A285, A286 are all pretty cool. But often busy.

The A285 just won the "most dangerous road in the UK" award. It's brilliant though.
