Someone I know sets one off foward facing everyday and and hasn't accumulated any magic points.

And someone I read about (e.g. BBC News) used to do the same thing, gave the camera the bird on occasion too. They just laid in wait one day and fucked his day up.

Wasn't there a report a while back of some police force or other identifying and tracking down a guy who was a habitual speeder, where certain identifiable features on his bike, other than the reg, gave him away?

Yeah, it was a Truvelo though, rather than SPECS. I seem to recall he went through it with his middle finger up, and they tracked him down by the model/colour of the bike in the area he was clocked in, and matched his gloves and the stupid annodised bolts he had around the screen.

Obviously a fantastic way to spend tax payers' money.

I kept purposely setting off a speed camera for a week. I then decided enough was enough and went another route for a month or so. Apparently, a mate who goes down that road regularly, said that there was a police car parked up in a layby after a fortnight. Whether it was true or not I never found out, but certainly gave me a bit of a fright.

If it's a one-time occurrence you'll likely be okay, maybe even twice. But if it happens often then you'll get plod parked by the camera or they'll do some further digging.

I guess the only solution is to go so fast that you're a blur. I think they'll have a hard time identifying features on an unidentified blurred object

I knew of a guy once with a 1400cc big bored ZX12R and a flip up number plate.

I guess he didn't have any worries about getting snapped by camera's and even less about getting caught if he wanted to do a runner! Laughing

If you flaunt it often enough theyll take offence and sit there and wait for you to fuck you up just to make an example. If its your usual route, same days, same time, same clothing and same bike it wont take long to find you and im sure if they cant catch you speeding through that day then you will find the bike getting a thorough inspection just to fuck with your day.

Why doesn't everyone use those flip up plates? I must admit, I've considered it before. But if you got caught with it, bye bye license, at least!

You'd be in more trouble than just points and a ban. Get caught with a flip up plate and you're looking at being done for perverting the course of justice.

I had a very wonderful thing that spun the plate around, it used a power valve motor.

I'd never consider getting one, never tried to run from the cops or even needed to, but if you had one fitted and it was seen by a cop, would they have to prove you were using it to evade detection or would simply having it on the bike be enough to nick you?

Off-topic I know but is that the same for those with these mis-spaced personal plates and those with added dots? Especially as (allegedly) the ANPR camera software can't recognise them.

Only I have never heard of anyone being done for those. Nearest I've come across is your standard vehicle rectification notice, like you may get for a small plate on a bike.

"It's for show purposes officer, would never actually utilise it on a public road"

Pretty sure they would then need to prove nefarious use.
