Hi does anyone know how to fix my choke lever which is connected directly to the carb but as soon as I let go it closes back off. Ive tried tightening the nut but that just makes it stiff to pull up. Thanks.

What bike is it? Some bikes are meant to do that, one of my old bikes (can't remember which) did the same.

It doesn't have a cable it is connected directly to the carb. The bike is a 1988 Suzuki Dr 125.

Looking at that it's on a spring, so assume it's meant to.

Also they call it a "starter valve" on this, which makes it sound like you use that to start it, then use the throttle to warm it up.

Has the raised part near the mounting hole worn away or has the lever bent away? Looks like the lever springs sideways over part of the casting to hold it up.

I don't get what you're asking? There wouldn't be any sideways movement the way the lever is mounted.

Where bolt No 43 enters the main body of the carb, there is what looks like a raised part of the casting that the lever could ride up and over if it was under a little tension toward the body.

I'm only throwing ideas out there, although as I know nothing about that particular bike, it may never have held in the open position unaided Laughing

Bought one of those new in the eighties! brings back such bad memories...

It simply relies upon friction to hold the plunger shaft against the spring.

However if tightening the nut can increase friction to the point it's too stiff, try backing it off a little.

Failing that make a wedge to hold the button up and attach it with fishing line or similar to the body and just
pull it out of the way to let the plunger descend once the engine no longer needs the enrichening port open.
