Alright folks,

Just bought a bandit. V5 came today and I'm wanting to SORN it. I have tried online but looks like I need to go to the post office due to the change of ownership.

Can I SORN it with just my V5 at the Post Office or are they going to want any other information?

Thanks
Wayne

should be able to SORN online.

Just enter the 11 digit V5 number and Reg and off it goes (or at least should)

To do in the PO, just need the V5, they'll do exactly the same

The system is working, just SORN'd the CBFs

Confused are you sure.
The SORN site allows you to type in the V5 reference number and the reg.
That should get you SORN.
As you have the V5 it shows you're the new keeper (owner is a different thing apparently). So I'm failing to see why no online.

On topic, V5 should be fine for post office, as it should be for online.

Yeah, I thought the same mate. I tried it a number of times but it's telling me due to the new ownership I think, I need to go to Post Office.

Must be the reference to Form V890 - SORN - pdf in that link.

You could download that, fill in, print off and save you minutes at the post office.

Really makes a joke of the online stuff though as you have all the info in the V5 that they want.

Question: did you buy the bike in October?

Because I wonder if they reckon that you should have paid VED or SORNed with the (different) reference number on the new keeper slip immediately (i.e. the change date on the V5C, rather than when DVLA recorded it).

And that because you didn't, you now owe them VED for all of October and they'll have that flagged for Doris at the post office to try and extort it out of you before they'll let you do anything else with the bike.

Maybe not, but the purpose of VED is naked revenue raising.

So, have you tried using the new keeper slip to SORN?

I had the same issue last year with a GSXR400, tried to SORN online, it said no.

Tried to SORN over the phone, they said they couldn't and had to do it by post.

SORN'd by post, and it was fine then.

Wow, they're actually regressing. Brick Wall

Must be missing issuing those sweet, sweet Penalty Notices when they "have no record of receiving it".

Dunno what they're playing at, but i couldn't sorn online for a bike i very recently bought either, so had to send the letter off, probably went straight in the bin, but we shall see

I had the same. Not heard anything back about the declaration of SORN V890 I sent them but it shows as SORNd on the tax checker website of theirs.
