My Girlfirend is going this 30before30 thing, (do 30 things before she turns 30) has decided she wants to complete a computer game as one of them as she never did growing up.

Has to be a 'proper' game, nothing XBLA and nothing 'casual'

I also want it to be a quality game something that shows the medium off in all it's glory.

Ideally I'd like her to complete FF7 and appreciate it for what it is (clearly the best video game ever made) however. I fear it may frustrate her by being too complicated and would be too long. I would like something story driven too.

She likes quirky things, we have played plenty of kinnect games before and things like house of the dead on the wii. She also liked Thomas was Alone.

She has my 360 at the moment and looking at the games I have I think Gears of War or Halo would be best but I think they may be a bit too shooty.

Any other suggestions.

Not too long.
Good Story.
Not too complicated.
Not too Frustrating.

Well, I've been trying to complete every level of every DooM wad since the game came out, been at it twenty years so far.

Seriously though, it's an iconic game, so why not tackle an icon for a 30b430?

Portal 2.

Fits all requirements, doesn't take a lot of getting used to and is lots of fun.

Does (would) she like shooters? One of the Halos (3 is best) or Fallout 3/New Vegas. Fallout may just be a little too long, but Halo is doable in a couple of casual days gaming.

My other half enjoyed the 'Fable' games.

Story driven, not too long, not too shooty, pretty cool atmosphere / ambience, bit of humour...also should be cheap as chips by now.

Tomb Raider series?

Walking dead XBLA (5-parter so not your typical XBLA)

State of Decay (another XBLA but my missus ragged the shit out of it for months).

Halo 1

Legend of Zelda - Link to the past on SNES.

How about something like Red Dead Redemption or GTA 5, both have got decent enough story lines, not too difficult (but enough to be a challenging) & fairly good graphics

Some good suggestions cheers all.

I don't want something too old, as I feel it wouldn't be immersive. The open world games like Red dead and GTA I think are a bit too much, I think something linear would be better.

Portal would be an excellent shout actually although frustration factor might be high.
Walking dead too would be excellent although she hasn't seen the series.

As for Blue Dragon I did consider it, I have it but I think it may be too much.

Fable might be another good shout. I have 2 on disc and I think 1 on the HDD.

I'll put them all to her and see what she says. Thumbs Up

I'm with Davo on this one - GTA 5/Red Dead redemption are easy and simple games and are actually linear in terms of Get character, go to mission and complete mission type stuff.

you can pick it up and put it down almost at will so doesn't require end to end hours of dedication. and the missions/characters are really funny.

Only 360 games the wife and I play together are the lego games. Drop in drop out 2 player coop. I have the star wars saga, harry potter and pirates of the Caribbean, might be a bit casual for you.

GTA5, see how much of a nutter she actually is? Mass effect 2 is brilliant as are the fallout games.

I reckon co-op is a good idea, so could go fable 2 and then 3. Also cheap and hugely underrated are the army of two games, whenever my bro comes over we get drunk and play those.

The Mrs loves Fable (specifically the second one).
The Mrs and the little one love the lego games.
The mrs turns into a scary psycho with GTA5, where she will get some decent guns and a bike. Go kill people, then get on the bike and off road until the heat dies down, then do it all again.....
