Evening Gents,

I have my Mod 2 booked for 3pm this coming Thursday in Kingswood in Bristol.

Any sage wisdom out there to help me pass a mod 2?

I have already read a few threads and picked up some good tips, just wondering if there are any other tips I might have missed!

Your instructor will have trained you in most of the same places the examiners use (such as hill start) and you'll find it familiar.

Also when returning to the test centre, there's a pedestrian crossing about 80m from the gate just next to a roundabout. Some twat who isn't me failed while getting all excited after the examiner said 'okay last one, turn left at the roundabout' and then proceeded to bimble straight through the crossing while two people were waiting. Doh!

Above all stay calm, don't stop close behind large vehicles and vans - stay in view of a mirror and watch out for all the 20 zones.

School kicking out time too, watch out for them suicidal crossing staff/children/parents

Stay calm and ride safe. Don't rush anything. It's far better to be hesitant than to dive out in front of someone.

^^^^This, and there are some that are part time 20 roads as well which
they may well try and trick you with.
Make sure you know how fast you are meant to be going on whichever
part of the ring road you end up on. You will definitely spend some of the
test on that road. (A4174) Keep an eye out for NSL signs
and when the limit drops (as you approach one of the roundabouts
for example), a little flash of the brake lights so the examiner following
you can see you have acknowledged the change in speed.
It will be over before you know it.

GOOD LUCK!!

Oh and look out for spilt diesel directly outside the test centre.
The lorries that also use that test centre can get a bit sploshy
over the speed humps directly outside.

Cheers guys.

Im a bit worried about the speed limit thing actually.
I have ridden around the area but I dont really know that part of bristol at all.

I passed a few variable 20 zones around schools that I imagine will be in action during the test. Hopefully I'll catch all the speed limit changes...

Just try and relax and keep your eyes open. The changes are all signposted.
My mod 2 was there, also at around 3pm and it was drizzling the first rain we'd
had some time so as slippy as fook. Just as we were about to set off the examiner I had
been allocated went home sick with pain from a knee injury from a bike accident
he'd had a long time previously. So last minute, I ended up doing my Mod 2
being followed by the misery guts gaffer of the place instead who was driving a
Renault Scenic thing, He wasn't best pleased about having to come out from his
warm office and conduct a bike test in the drizzle either.
Very humourless man. It was weird being followed by a car after all
my tuition had been bike to bike. Passed anyway despite all that.
It's only half an hour, be over before you know it. Thumbs Up

Hey,

Not so much Bristol advice but I passed my MOD2 last week.

The best advice is to RELAX. The 30odd minutes flies by in no time. Just make sure you are checking mirrors, doing your lifesavers and keeping well back when I'm traffic. Be careful of stopping, by that I mean you need to be constantly thinking 'what if' - this will help you to not jump lights, stop in a yellow box or in a cycle box etc

Enjoy the ride & look forward to showing the instructor your skills.

Just have to decide what bike to get now!

Depends what you use the bike for. The rr is ok if the bike is to be used as a sporty toy. The F is better as an all-rounder everyday bike.

Glad I didn't waste my time there then!

Congrats on passing, search far and wide my friend. Nationwide only when searching biketrader/gumtree as part of the fun of buying your first bike is riding it back!

I think it is difficult for new riders to get test rides due to insurance issues.

Best thing is to get a friend to test ride it to check for any problems.

If it's just a case of seeing if you like how the bike rides then if it's a cbr600 I can't see you not liking it to be honest. Have a sit on it and see if it fits you.

Yep, they are so up themselves as the premier bike shop in the area
it's untrue. I wasn't allowed a test ride there with a 100% cash deposit.
I won't spend anything there now out of principle.
I wouldn't buy a sticker from Fowlers, never mind a bike.

Bath Road Motorcycles could have had a sale out of me when I had just
passed. They had a 58 plate Er6f for about 3500. I went there, stood
next to the bike looking expectantly at the sales staff and they just
ignored me. They were just standing round gassing.
After about 5 or 6 minutes standing there like a lemon I walked out
and when I got home I immediately emailed their sales manager advising
him that he just let a sure thing walk out of the door.

As luck would have it, a few weeks later I bagged a 13 plate.
in a private sale with full luggage and just 1100 odd miles on it.
I gave 4k flat for that so a much better deal than BRM and theirs
had a dent in the tank. Mine was as new really.
And to echo Ben, I rode mine home to Bristol from Stoke on Trent.
So by the time I got it back to my shed, we were acquainted.

I hear Bristol Kawasaki are new rider friendly, certainly with students
from Phoenix where I trained. Maybe give them a try...

Well my thinking behind the cbr is that either the F or RR would be plenty quick as a first bike, and it has strong build quality and good residuals.
Im only really planning on using it as a toy with a small bit of commuting so the RR might be a option.
I guess its just a question of whether its too much too fast.

The only big bike I have ridden so far is a cbf 600, so I feel like I should try some other makes and models so that I can get a better sense of what I want!
