TBH it's no different to the 5 year old masters piano.

drag and drop questions,

Some years ago I had to explain how drag and drop worked to someone that had got their job on the help desk in the company I worked for on the back of an MCP.
Glad to see it's in the syllabus now Confused.[/quote]

My sister tells me such things are done to save money on marking.

Yeah, that's one of the benefits. The other is are instant results/feedback.

I built a site for someone who wanted students to take online, interactive maths tests at keystage 3.

There are loads of question types, one of which is drag and drop.

You predefine the answers so you know the possible inputs, no ambiguity so no human verification. If the answer(s) match what you define as the answer(s), award points.

If you look at tests from the last 20 or so years, this type is no different from the "Circle any of the following values that are multiples of 7" type of question.

Some confusion, maybe?

I was referring to them teaching you how to 'drag and drop' in windows - such as when you copy a file.

Of course, if you had to use that technique in the test, my colleague would have done particularly badly!

Plonk an OAP in front of a PC with Solitaire, they learn how to drag and drop, and double click quite quickly.

Indeed.
Ok, this was around 2002, but was still of some cornern that someone who apparently new about computers with an MCP that was supposed to be sorting a lot more complicated issues was really impressed/amazed when I demonstrated 'drag and drop' in Windows!
