I'm still on the lookout for my first big bike, an Aprilia Shiver - however part of me is still open to buying a cheap winter bike. Whilst browsing ebay, I've stumbled across this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-CB-400-SUPER-FOUR-/291280020190?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item43d1a462de

Might just have to have a look at the weekend, anything I need to look out for? What are they like? Part of me really fancies this a acheap winter hack, cover it in ACF-50 and run it all winter Very Happy

Overpriced dealer by far.

Good bikes, revvy and make a decent noise.

Get it down to a grand.

Hmm, yeah looking at the pics closer it's a little ropey around the enges, not sure if I could deal with the Kph speedo either.

"money spent including stainless exhaust" - it's a Lextech end can which screams budget to me.

Is a CB400 Superfour not a bit too nice a bike for a Winter hack? Shocked

If you had said a CB250N then I might have understood!

If that was me, I know exactly what would happen. I would spend ages ripping apart and restoring the CB400SF and making it too mint for winter, and at the same time I would forget I even owned the Big Aprilia.

dunno if those headlights would be any use for the cold winters nights tbh, i'm not a fan of them!

massive fan of the bikes however, and if you can knock money off that then i'd take it but maybe not as a winter hack. but that's just me!

Since when was one and a half grand "cheap winter hack" money!?

Knock a grand off the price and it becomes a hack.

Bandit 400, the only thing its good for is starting a fire, even then it won't burn for long because that will break also.

No.

No I am not.

I've had chinese bikes with less problems.
I've never been stranded before... only bandits have stranded me. This one did it on a hill... in a blizzard, because the electrics were evidently weatherproofed by some nugget with no arms that has a penchant for licking windows.

Not only would I rather have a chinese bike over a bandit 400, I'd rather listen to the sound of my parents having sex, at full volume with a directional microphone blasting it into my ears.

I would rather eat cow shit, fresh from de anus.

I'd rather attach my bollocks to a car that can do 0-60 in <3 seconds at the start line of a drag race.

I would rather be brutally raped by 900 prison escapees looking for their next hole of justice.

No, I'm not a fan.

They are pretty, but you can get an otherwise very similar CB1 for a third of the price.

[edit]Kinda ruined the 'pretty' by the generic dominator headlights, though Rolling Eyes.[/edit]

So, another cb400 has come up for sale, much much nicer this time, and a 2001 VTEC version - https://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=181596060410&globalID=EBAY-GB&alt=web

Mph speedo (not sure if it's had a conversion or what) 2001 bike registered in the uk 2 years after it was built, and insurance cost to swap over from the baby vara is £3.27 if staying on TPFT or £56 changing to fully comp (all broker fees). Laughing

At 6ft 3in, how uncomfortable will a cb400 be?

As I'm gonna be moving soon and don't know whether I'll have a garage, the slightly cheaper bike route is making more sense, at least until the spring when I'll have a years ncd, and will be settled into a new place.

Nice looking bike - should be fine at your height.

I've a CB-1 at the moment which is physically smaller than that, comfy enough at 6'2.

It be luv.

Didn't get on really with my Superfour. Great little bike but I'm too tall for one.

I'd buy that, knock em down a bit.

Never ridden the VTEC one, but the VTEC car I had was "fun" in terms of noise and the way it went after 4k.

Brother in laws lives outside, so probably be fine, just grab a cover.
