"Call me Dave" is busy selling your vote at the G20 conference!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-30073357

Apparently the only way to future prosperity is signing up to the TTIP (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership).

Part of that treaty is the "Investor State Dispute Settlement", (ISDS).

Quote:
.....ISDS, in effect grants, multinationals the same legal position as a nation-state itself, and allows them to sue sovereign governments in, so-called, arbitration tribunals on the grounds that their profits are threatened by government policies.

Quote:
...........Australia signed an investment treaty with Hong Kong in 1993. When Australia’s federal government introduced legislation to enforce plain cigarette packaging, the Asian arm of the cigarette company Philip Morris used the treaty to sue it.

In effect multi national tax dodgers will be blackmailing governments into favourable policies, whether you like it or not!

You will be hard pushed to find anything, in depth, about this in the "meeja", funny that.  There were protests in London, no so long ago, that received virtually no coverage!

Your votes have been sold to the highest bidder!
Democracy is in its death throes!

So if I understand that, in the context of a motorcycle forum, couldn't the Japanese, etc. bike makers sue the eu countries? On the basis the new licence regulations is affecting their sales / profits as restricting new riders?

Yes!
If they signed up, although it is a "Transatlantic" treaty, which may rule them out!
Having said that the ozzie example would suggest they have their own, southern hemisphere, version!

Commandant Cameron believes its fine.

So it must be fine.

No need to panic.

Thinking.

Same as a nation state? Does this mean Tesco could declare war on a small nation, invade and seize it's oil wealth?

Peoples Republic of Walmart?

Oh come on democracy and rule of law don't really mean much these days.

I mean the moment they simply took money off people in Cyprus ought to have warned people about it.

I for one look forward to a level playing field where we enjoy all the rights and benefits of our toiling Colonial cousins.

So... when this deal opens with America, can anyone see us being sued over the NHS losing private health care companies profit?

No, but was living and working there when it kicked off, there's a huge thread about it on here somewhere.
Still own property there!
