Hello,

Purchased an Oxford Barrier from my Suzuki Dealer in February this year and it seems it has already given up on me. I don't know what the Manufacturers Warranty is on these but I would expect more from a named brand?

It seems there is a major design flaw here as the pin connecting the head of the chain onto the mechanism has come off. I use my chain daily and carry it in my top box everyday, I suppose vibrations have made it collapse but shouldn't these be welded??

See picture:

https://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii315/Xens_d/WP_002340.jpg

What do you recommend? Contact Oxford directly or the dealer? No, of course I didn't keep the receipt. Yes, I lost the pin that connected them

Sad

Hope this also helps those that purchased the same, go check yours.

Dealer.

They sold it to you, they are responsible under the sale of goods act.

Usual Oxford over priced chink crap'security product lifespan imho. Get on to whoever mugged you off for it ASAP. Complain to Oxford (not that I expect they will give a hoot) if you are fobbed off by the retailer.

Did you pay by card? Bank statement showing the purchase counts as proof of purchase, either show them your online banking on your phone or bring a paper statement. Alternatively if they asked for your address and such during the purchase, they'll have the receipt on their system.

Oxford aint the brand it used to be.

Cheap chinese crap now, all of it apparently.

Bike shop near me stocks Oxford products but steers customers away from it to more reliable (and usually cheaper) products.

I got a similar style chain from lidl years ago.... been left in all weathers and with the exception of a wee skoosh of WD40 maybe twice a year I've never had any problems.... think I paid about a tenner for it too

Anyway, can't you just take it somewhere and get it welded?

I'm going to agree with this, if you can't prove when you bought it, you could be bullshitting for all they know.

I'd be more worried that the end link look to be cracked? Another point to make to the Dealer/Oxford

Wow... That looks like it offers little extra security than one of the £4.99 locks you can buy from Wilko.

I've got an old Oxford chain, with separate padlock. The chain is made of 10mm links, and the last link is a longer loop, which you put the other end of the chain through, then lock the padlock on to the end.

I chucked the Oxford padlock out as it looked like you could unlock it with a fucking biro! I now use an Abus disc lock on it instead. Thumbs Up

This. My experience has been that most of their stuff is rubbish an I don't touch it any more.

The one exception to that is their stormex cover which is pretty good, if pricey.

Have to agree, I've got a Rainex and it's definitely one of my best purchases.

Within the first month of purchasing my Oxford bike cover, it developed a tear and the red velvet-type covering on the inside of the cover keeps shedding fibres all over my fuel tank.

Crock of shit!

So the chain you use to secure your bike has basically fallen apart in your hands? Laughing

Good old Oxford.

That looks absolutely shit, what a weak point you could take that down with a hefty blow from a centre punch!

Go buy a proper chain hmmkay?

Now I know more about Oxfords reputation, and after using it every day for 10 months, I'd be inclined to say lesson learnt and call it a write-off.

However I am indescribably lazy. Cool

nothing to be lost by approaching dealer and manufacturer I suppose, worst they can do is say no.

True, the covers are good, but not cheap.

Everything else is bad, but not cheap.
