I am clueless with anything mechanical. Can anyone recommend a book which explains exactly how components of motorcycles work? Or are there websites? I've had a search on here but I haven't quite found what I'm looking for. For example I couldn't even tell you what a carburetor does.

Amazon lists a couple of Haynes tech-books but £17 seems like a lot. Unless they really are worth it..?

Thanks in advance.

I would use youtube for learning tasks there are plenty of great vids out there from different mechanics etc. Also a Haynes manual for your bike is a good idea if they make one they usually explain most tasks in good detail while most jobs are universal for most bikes the occasionally thing only your bike has comes up and can trick you Wink

Example: one of the pistons on the front right caliper of my Honda hornet only operates through the back pedal thanks to Honda's combined braking tech, initially I thought the piston was seized.....Then I read the manual carefully.

This may well be a safe buy for £15

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Motorcycle-Basics-Techbook-Haynes-Techbooks/dp/185960515X

Have you tried looking in your local library?

Seeing as you're close to me, I can lend you a book I used for college (recent, so not out of date), but would like it back at some point with it being 30 odd quids worth, or I think I have a couple of Haynes ones that are half decent which you can borrow for as long as you want.

Or borrow the Haynes then the other one, offers there Thumbs Up
