I recently picked up a YRB for my wife to learn on. When I picked it up I thought the front felt underpowered but put it down to being used to sports bike brakes.

However, she had a couple of lessons at a school on a YBR and she said the brakes felt around 80% better.

I bled the brakes and renewed the fluid, stripped the caliper down and cleaned it. Took it for a spin and it still felt crap, in fact I'm not sure it would stop in an emergency situation.

Does anyone know if a caliper for a later model will fit (08-10), and if it does would it need the master cylinder changing too. The design on the newer caliper looks much better.

Thanks, Ash.

I would try new pads first.

On my CG which was worse than my old YBR I changed the brake line to a Hel line from Wezmoto, slid piston out and scrubbed it and then worked it in an out with red rubber grease. This made my front brakes work great, I only use the rear in an emergency or in bad weather. I do the clean and lube every time I put new front pads on which is every couple of thousand miles as the are the soft ebc pads but only about £7 new. Now I know the CG front brakes are worse than the YBR as standard but now they stop my chunky arse and my bike with all my gear very well indeed.

New pads on order, hopefully that'll sort it out. If not it's probably the brake line. Can't see any bulges or leaks though.

Brakes on the YBR are quite frankly shit, I dreaded having to stop in a hurry. They would slow you down and that's about it.

She says the bikes at the school stopped better, I think they were recent models. At the minute I can hold the lever around 85% in to the bar and push the bike still... Utterly useless. My bike is a Daytona 675 though, so it's hard for me to compare Confused, just want her to be safe.

Both, there is a spongy feeling all round when braking at the front. The pads don't bite until the lever is nearly touching the bar.
