Wrong size tyres,

hi guys,

just re thought of this, when i first bought my bike (private) when i got it home id all ready got a user manual for it, went over the bike (basics brake fluid oil tyres)

anyway noticed immediately the previous owner had the wrong tyres on,

for the front he had 120/60's
but actually needed 120/70's

and back he had 160/50
but needed 160/60

anyway got the correct sizes but im curious to know why previous owner did this?

just a tool?

what are the "effects" of wrong tyre size?

For the front the only real issue you'd have is clearance with the fender.

For the rear the 60 profile would give you a taller profile and would in theory speed up turn in speed,it would also give you more lean angle to play with.

Down side would be high speed stability as the contact patch with the road is reduced,also a downside to this could be the ability to get enough heat in to the tyres but we're talking road riding here.

Missed the first part,I thought it needed a 60.

Anyway same principle as the rear,the secondary number is the aspect ratio. It's the percentage of the width so in this case the front will be 70% of 120mm which gives you the height.

So the height will be 84mm.

With the 60 profile fitted it will have been 72mm
