Need some advice please. I was browsing Amazon on my phone today then about half an hour later I noticed I had an email confirming my order??

I logged in and it was for a pair of fucking ugly £60 trainers not in my size. I guess I must have pressed the buy it with 1 click button when scrolling about. I literally had no idea.

Not a problem, it hasn't been dispatched I'll just cancel it via the cancel button in my account, thats what its there for right.

So I go in via my mobile and computer and send the seller via the cancel button two emails saying - do not process under any circumstances, order is in error please cancel immediately. That was 2 emails at 12:30.

At 2:39 I get an email saying the order has been despatched. Cue fury.

Where do I stand, can I just tell my bank to not release the funds and then keep them as unsolicited mail? How do I get them to take responsibility for their fuck up?
What is the point of the cancel button if two emails from it isn't enough to stop the order?

Distance selling regs (or whatever they're called now). You cancelled. Get money back. Should be straightforward. Depends how on the ball they are.

If all fails, surely you can just send them back and be issued a refund?

Thumbs Up

lol what?

How is it their fuck up, when YOU ordered it BY MISTAKE.

The system is most likely automated otherwise you would complain that it takes time to process orders.

I imagine, that you will just have to return the goods, you are likely to be liable for the return postage costs too, unless the items are faulty. Since you did actually order them.

If it is processed by Amazon logistics, you will be able to drop it off at a collect+ location nearby and get a refund with zero hassle.

If it is processed by some other company then you will need to speak to them directly but you are still covered by regulations so you will get your money back. Just hope it is processed by Amazon because it is so easy. I returned a broken phone 30 days after purchase and had the refund processed by the time I got home from dropping it off.

I know I can return them as long as they pay for postage. But I'm going to have to physically get off my fat arse and take them to the post office. Then I have to wait a few days for them to be received before I'm refunded.

I know its barely any effort I just feel aggrieved I have to do anything at all when I expressly told them not to send me the bloody things. Mad

Oh well, first world problems! Needless to say buy with 1 click has been switched OFF.

Actually, since there's nowt wrong with them, postage would be for you to pay. But postage shouldn't enter into it. It's not like they'll fit through your letterbox so just refuse it at the door and let the courier return it.

I wont use the one click. Don't see the point, I don't need to buy stuff that quick.

Same as these cards that you can swipe and not use your pin number for payments, um, no thanks.

Good news, I found a phone number and got through to them. Apparently the order is cancelled and refunded. The dispatched notification in Amazon is automated apparently.
Still would have been nice of them to have let me know at some point. Confused

Why didn't you do that first instead of making this thread?

Because at first i couldn't find any contact details and whilst i explored other avenue's of resolution. I made a thread to garner some advice on my options (of which it seems i had none). Is that ok? Rolling Eyes

I’m sorry it fizzled out and turned in to a non-event, i really am. What were you hoping for anyway? the title of the thread hardly invited titillation.

This I would debate,
Yes he did order the item by mistake however he also took more than reasonable steps to cancel the order.
The 'Cancel' feature (which I have used myself) is described and intended for exactly this scenario and as it has failed to cancel the order I would say the onus lies with whoever is processing the order therefore the OP should not be responsible for postage or return postage costs.
Not only "WTF's the point of having a cancel feature if it does grand F-A" but more to the point, it is advertised as such to do exactly that, stop an item from being sent if cancelled prior to dispatch.

TL:DR -
OP's balls up for ordering the item but having taken reasonable steps to cancel the order they sent it anywhoser and that would leave the postage costs on their shoulders ('their' being whoever is processing the order).

Ps. Yes its an automated system but if it is not capable of processing an order cancellation then they shouldn't be offering it to the OP.

You then I would assume, would be happy to wait a few days for a next day delivery item to be posted out to you? So that every order can be screened by a human?

Bit of a moot point as Amazon have free return of items...... Simply print the label take to post office and jobs done. Thumbs Up

Again, it wouldn't need to be if it was automated.
In the blurb it says that if the item is cancelled before dispatch then it will not be dispatched.
What's the point of saying so if this is not the case.
I do not know the intricacies of their internal system but being a software engineer you cannot tell me this could not be integrated into their systems infrastructure.
Every order has be to picked, handled and packed by a human who has all the details of the order in real time (hand held device) and then puts it in for delivery, I cannot see that relaying the cancellation to this system would slow the process atall. If anything, they would not be picking, handling, packing, posting and re-stocking cancelled items so may even speed their service up!

It was the case, the item wasn't dispatched.

If it is, simple, quick and cheap to implement, why don't you write some software, I'm sure Amazon would love such a cheap, easy investment that they have never though of before.

So such systems are a moot point.
