Hi all,

It's now time for me to change the rear tyre on my 01 CG. But, as you all know, there are so many different brands of tyre on the internet. So, I want to know what brands you lot have used in the past that you would recommend. I'm in not so sunny England, so I need a good wet and dry tyre. My dad has recommended Metzeler, and I've got Continental Conti-city front and rear at the moment.

Cheers,
Tim

Being a UK forum, most people are Laughing

Mitchelin Pilot Sporty's are the dogs bollocks on the little bike, however they've now been discontinued and replaced with the Pilot Street.

Given the Pilot Power's I've got on my KTM are also exceptionally good in the wet, the change the Pilot Sporty's made to the YBR & H100, and the reviews the Pilot Road series seem to be getting then it's fairly safe to assume that the Pilot Street is going to be equally as good.

I thought it was an international forum Embarassed
I've just been looking on the Mitchelin website, and I used the bike search thingy. It's come up with Mitchelin City Pro as the only result

Cheers,
Tim

It lies.

According to my PC your bike runs a 2.75x18 & a 90/90-18 which are YBR tyres. Cambrian catalouge lists them as availible in said sizes.

As a shop we're very dear on tyres, but my list price indicates £110-120 for a pair.

Hi,

I've had a look on the tyres. I'm running 2.75 x 18 on front, and 3.00 x 18. A pair of conti-go tyres on ebay that im looking at is £67.99 (That's front and rear)

(Here's the link : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CG-125-1982-Onwards-2-75-18-3-00-18-Conti-Go-Front-Rear-Tyres-/351230785683?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item51c6fc7893)
Cheers,
Tim

I have a conti-go on the front of my CG and I dont like it. Its fine in the dry but in the wet its simply 'orrible. The conti-go replaced a CST tire which, according to the date code, was 8 years old and beginning to crack. I'd much rather still have it on the bike.....

For the record, my bike is a 51 plate and Iain is right on the sizes 2.75-18 front and 90/90-18 rear

I have been looking at the Metzeler Me22 and it looks ok. Certainly available in the sizes I require, and they're quite reasonably priced too

Well, my tyre sizes on my cg are 2.75 x 18 front, and 3.00 x 18 rear. That's what's on the tyre walls, and it is also stamped on the rims

Cheers,
Tim

Do you have the tyre pressure sticker on the chain-guard? it tells you the correct tyre sizes.... mine had a 3.00 on the back when I got it too...

Just out of interest, is it a W (kickstart) or M1 (electric and kick)?

No, there isn't a sticker on the chain guard. Looks like there hasn't been one there for a long time. It's an 01 plate CG125-W

Cheers,
Tim

How would you say they perform? Are they any good in the wet?

Sava MC7's would get my vote.

Ran them in all weathers on my X7 and on my KH. Good all weather grip and long enough life. Cheap to buy normally too.

3.00 x 18 & 90/90-18 are the same thing more or less. You won't die.

You could likely get a set of "Golden Boy" tyres for £10 a wheel if you wanted cheap, but a 6hr wait in Pembury hospital with suspected spinal injuries convinced me that cheaping out on tyres wasn't the best idea.

Choice is entirely yours boss, but cheap is cheap for a reason Laughing

It's the same with helmets. You should be aiming to spend as much as you can comfortably afford on a lid, you can't put a price on safety

So, not really unless you have acess to data that proves a more expensive helmet is always safer than a cheap one. Helmets and tyres are very different things & with tyres you really do get what you pay for! I'm not sure how your choice of lid comes into it Wink

Well, that's what I was told by my cbt instructor anyway lol

A 2 Star £50 helmet that fits well is going to be far better than a £300 3 Star that doesn't...

Price isn't everything.... I have a Marushin 777 which is a 5 star lid and £60 worth - fits beautifully Cool

FIT is KING in helmets NOT £££ Thumbs Up
