As mentioned on the new bikers forum, I am trying to clean the crap off the pistons and pads on the front brake of my SR125.

I took off the caliper and used a G-clamp to force back the pistons, but I couldn't see anyway of actually taking out the pads. The Haynes manual had a completely different type of caliper than the one on my bike, so that was no use.

According Dodsi (hopefully you are reading this), there is just one bolt to undo and the pads come out, without even needing to remove the caliper, but I'll be buggered if I can work out which one.

I have attached some photos of both sides of the calliper on the bike (sorry if they look confusing, my stepdad took the pictures then emailed them to me so I didn't get a chance to look at them first and I think he was a bit close Laughing )

Please can anyone tell me how to get the pads out?

You need to undo the marked bold in attatchment and the caliper will slide up.

Then you can slide the pads out, take the caliper off and clean the pistons up.

If i had the time I would drive up and do it for you. Rolling Eyes

Ta very much. I shall attempt it later on in the week.

That bolt was the only one we hadn't turned when the caliper was off, because it didn't look like it did anything that would release the pads. D'oh! Embarassed

'Tis done! Thumbs Up

Yup, taking that Alen bolt off was all it took. You can actually get the pads in and out without taking off the whole caliper, but we took the whole thing apart and gave it a good old spit 'n' polish 'n' copper grease.

It has made a huge difference to the control of the bike at slow speeds.

Thanks for the help everyone (especially Dodsi who should set up a helpline charging 50p a minute Laughing )
