 |
|
Hello there.
I've joined this forum purely because my bike is a pile of rubbish and I'm always searching for answers, so I'm hoping you guys can help
Right so I've previously changed the stator, gear sensor selector and all sorts to get this bike working. It's recent mishap is that I start the bike, go for a ride and at around 7000/8000 rpm the bike will start to judder before eventually cutting out. I've just come back from a simple ride where I broke down 5 times!! If I try starting it straight away it just doesn't. Leave it 5 minutes and it'll start again, only for it to cut out and judder 100 meters down the road. I've also noticed that sometimes the gears won't display on the dash? I've almost changed the ignition a few times as the key has to be on the perfect spot for it to work.
Any ideas? It would be a great help as I'm trying to sell the damn thing to get a yzf r125! Warning to everyone - do NOT buy these bikes. Not even because they're cheap. You're better off without anything as you'll spend more money repairing the damn thing!!
p.s. I changed the spark plug and that still doesn't work.
Thanks! |

It's funny, I had one of those bikes, and it was fine for me. What I suspect you mean to say is that you've not found the fault yet, and throwing money at it hasn't solved the issue.
I had a similar issue manifest itself briefly, but I managed to track it down fairly quickly - in my case, it was due to a bit of wiring earthing itself to the frame, which caused the bike to cut out. Check the loom for any spots of worn-through insulation.
Minty - yes, it's carbed, but I strongly suspect that this is purely down to an electrical fault caused by thin wiring insulation. ____________________ '10 SV650SF, '83 GS650GT (it lives!), Questionable DIY dash project, 3D Printer project, Lasercutter project |

Yea at first the bike was great! It's a 13 plate and had barely any miles on it. But since commuting the thing has just slowly worn apart! Yes someone I know thinks it could be the wiring, so I'll check that and clean the carb! Cross fingers it works! I have people wanting to buy it and I can't sell it like this!!
Thanks for both your help |

My first impression and stab at the issue is...
(1) Electrics, which may be related to...
(2) Something getting hot and so not working (disconnect/poor connection), cooling down (contact then good) and then working again.
Like (2) could be electrics/connector. Have you checked the coil(s).
Having said that, might just be a bad earth wire. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

Haha I'm always riding flat out on that it's so slow! Yea I will do. My brother seems to think it's a fuelling issue. I'll check the wiring first though. Thanks for your help |

Hi. We have a Workshop section where you'll get better answers to this sort of question.
How would you describe the "juddering"?
Does the bike lose power progressively before coming to a stop, or can you feel it missing individual ignitions?
In the former case, it's likely fuelling. You've got a stuck or sunk float (give the carb a whack), a blocked breather, a partially blocked fuel tap, or you're just out of fuel. Or you're running lean and it's overheating, I suppose. What colour was the tip of the spark plug that you removed from the bike?
In the latter case it's likely electrical, which could be coil (check the 12V low tension connectors on it for security), CDI (again, wiggle the connectors), earth or just the battery connectors.
Or... sell it and forget it. There's always some mug who'll fall for the line that they're getting a bargain bike because it has an easily fixed problem. They might even be right.
Why an YZF R125? Are you under 19? If not, A2 or A license and big girl bike offers much more fun-per-money. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
