So folks it happened again. I crashed. I was following a car down to a roundabout. It was going a decent speed and it looked like he was gonna go straight through. There was nothing coming but when he got right to the roundabout he braked very suddenly and hard so I went into the back of him and fell off. I admit that maybe I should have been further back and legally I'm to blame. But while I was sprawled out on the road with my bike on its side he made a quick get away I picked up the bike and rode it home. Broken indicator bracket, cracked plastics, something's catching the wheel, and bent gear lever. My shoulder I fell on hurts and so does my wrist. Third party fire and theft so now my bike will be off the road for a few weeks |

I would have said crash for cash until you said he ran away. Strange one that. I'd say nothing, get the bike fixed on your own and you'll probably not hear anything.
On a last night, poor obs etc. At least you're not badly injured. ____________________ illuminateTHEmind wrote: I am just more evolved than most of you guys... this allows me to pick of things quickly which would have normally taken the common man years to master

roundabouts
vehicle in front, always, not saying ignore everything else, but watch vehicle in front regardless of any assumptions you might make from e.g. empty roundabout no other cars anywhere etc.
Driver could drop his phone/kitten/fag and brake hard ____________________ R1250RS

Probably the only time we didn't need a paint diagram
Firstly, guys a c**t for driving off, and obviously has something to hide, as any claim would go against you.
So in this instance lick your wounds, and learn from it Always be prepared to stop, particularly if there's a car infront of you. It's far too common for cars to slam on their brakes or give way when they have right of way*

As it happens, I'm quite familiar with that roundabout, and a "decent" speed to approach it from that direction is a crawl.
There's no "straight through", it's left or right. Presumably you mean left. Here's the street view taken from where you would have been when you came to this curious conclusion:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we give way to the right in this country, yes?
So, do you have X-ray vision, that you could see through that brick wall, trees and swathe of signs to the right?
That roundabout has poor visibility and should be approached with caution, particularly from the south. Doubly so when you consider the number of foreigners (tourist or student) zooming around there with no idea about destination, route, using roundabouts, the proper side of the road on which to drive, or the inherent merits of the British banger over all other so-called 'sausages'.
He was a villain for driving off, but also a victim. You didn't do yourself any favours there. I'm glad you're in a position to learn something from it, and I hope that you do. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

My father has been rear-ended three times at roundabouts and junctions (in a car). He drives up to them at a reasonable speed but then stops for a good look around even when it's totally clear. I've nearly rear-ended him when I've followed him. It's always the other guys fault but it is infuriating. I'm sure he's not the only pensioner driver that does this.
Your guy is a git for driving off though. ____________________ Licence: Nov 2012, Bikes: Suzuki GN125, Moto Guzzi Strada 750, Triumph Sprint ST 955i x 2

I'll be sure to work on my observation skills. And at the time he braked suddenly and hard there was nothing coming from with direction, and I didn't see anything come from the right before he left |

Since you were the one who ended up lying on the road today after riding into a stationary vehicle, I would certainly recommend that you do so.

When you were looking to the right, did you take in all the signs there?
I've taken the liberty of counting the signs visible to the car at that roundabout. I make it sixteen distinct signs, with twenty seven distinct destinations, from major routes through tourist attraction down to local shops.
Does this tell you anything about why you should expect vehicles to do crazy shizzle at that roundabout?
Do you assume that because you know where you're going, every other vehicle on the road does too?
I'd tell you how that ends up, but you just found out. You should be the one lecturing me, you monster. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
