There is almost certainly something better. Hammerite is tricksy stuff to get a good finish with, has some issues with how well and quickly it hardens and isn't what it once was.

What are you painting?

Agreed - I wish I'd invested in the stuff 5 years ago -it's beaten gold hands down as a commodity about double the price it was back then. I believe the brand has changed hands though..

As mentioned I would try an alternative nowadays..

I believe POR15 do a product reputedly superior to Hammerite Smooth, supposed to be a lot like Hammerite used to be, still quite pricey but does the job.
