I understand that this is illegal from the getgo because there is a solid white line, and it's arguably unwise because it tends to contain debris but with government support Laughing it is begging to have bikes in it for times when traffic is heavy.

Think about it - nobody encroaches into it, nobody ever changes lanes across it. Seems perfect, no?

The words government and support when the government is broke to the tune of 167bn a year.

The fact that bikers do not make up a significant voting block means not a chance!

It does seem perfect, but the debris is what would put me off. More specifically, the mutilated remains of birds, rabbits, foxes, deer, badgers, hedgehogs, rats and elephants that thought it would be a good idea to play in the road.

You mean the patch of surface that's a couple of foot wide at best and 3 inches at worst for water to drain into next to the barrier?

Hopefully you'll notice your puncture in good time to get all the way back across to the hard shoulder Laughing

Would be great if we could, but it's full of dead badgers and bits of bumper. Really can't see it ever happening.

I've noticed you don't get punctures when on large pebbles as the debris will sink to the bottom, when I'm king I'll impose that along with the ability to ride on the other side of the road's bus lane.

Sound good?..........Good.

Brilliant idea and I did try it out once rather inadvertently.

Heading back to Scotland from Coventry at 3.00am when the matchsticks finally stopped working and I was at peace with the world.
The job had suddenly become so easy, the bike was running like a dream and it wasn't cold and wet anymore and ............. what was tapping my hands and where was that strange kissing noise coming from?

Opened my eyes to find I was doing 15mph in the outside lane kissing the kerb on the central reservation with a strange blue glow behind me.
After the police had been convinced that I wasn't drunk but just dog tired they followed me up to Shap services where they recommended I have a coffee and a break (I could have done with a large brandy!)

After an ninety minute nap in the cafe I left to find the police still outside just checking I was alright to carry on.

So it can be done without a puncture although the heart attack is probably more of a danger.

The 14 inches between the armco barrier and the far right lane.

I've also fecked tyres right up doing it Confused

A guy I know used to use it on the commute down the m3 from farnborough to sunbury. Another biker used to join the m3 at the camberley junction and they would race every morning to sunbury where He would turn off and the other guy would carry on.

Things used to get a bit stupid, cutting in and out of the hard shoulder and central reservation and anywhere in between, once past the m25 the cars just disappeared and they could really open the bikes up 150+ was the norm!

This guy was not in any way me.

Why so coy? When I worked in central Manchester a long time ago I would often meet TT man, CBR girl or SV man. We'd be slightly competitive riding into town. They'd always turn off at Blackfriars though.

Oh fuck me, another suggestion on a par with using the bus lane on the other side of the road. Laughing

The A27 has a cleanup crew that eats roadkill... I think that we should invest in genetically modified pigs that dodge bikers, eat roadkill, sweep the "lane" and stay away from the actual road.
