I'm considering my options for replacing my stanchions at some point (yeah yeah, shit bike, don't waste large amounts of money) Smile
The fork pitting isn't hugely bad, but there are LOTS of small marks within the travel area.
Plus the previous owner had already replaced the seals so im assuming it will become a problem (even if I gaiter and lube up)

TL:DR - Better to buy new stanchions or have stanchions rechromed?

It's a cb500 1999 cup model.
I did search about a bit on ebay for some used ones, the price I liked, condition was terrible though.
You think I might be best off finding the exact dimensions of the stanchions(haynes been ordered) and looking for similar bikes that have the same ones?

Will try the googling part number thing though cheers.

Is it just that rechroming is expensive or does the chrome not last?
Each stanchion new on wemoto is about £112 (which is not unacceptable, just weighing up)

The quality of the re-chroming can vary so you need to get it done at a recommended place.
£112 each isn't the worse I've seen but still quite a bit, esp if you've got VAT and post on top. I'd rather pay that than anywhere near for re-chroming.....esp if you're keeping the bike for a while.

Yeah, I'm not one of these people who works their way up the speed ladder. (years on a 125 made that clear)
I intend to run the bike until it rusts out from under me. Smile
Hopefully the pragmasis beast of a chain and squire lock should help me keep it that long.

I had a pair of Marzocchi M1R fork stanchions re-chromed by A.R.Philpots, great job about £150.00 the pair collected and delivered back to my door in less than two weeks. would definitely use them again !.

If it's not urgent why not save a search and keep checking every few days for some reasonable used forks? They turn up from time to time. Stick some gaiters on your new pair, fit and forget Mr. Green
