Is it actually possible to get the link for the map with all the dots in the first place? (Have you seen it done anywhere else?)

nope never seen it done, but i dont go on blogs,
i just assumed, since they have it there must be a way, im no internet code monkey so couldnt say if its possible or not,
if its not possible, then sweet, ill do the route on google maps, and save the image,

the mrs wants it for a book thing,
and the stock image does the whole world, which ineveatable shows a pant load of flags over europe but nothing over the rest of world, which is useless to us,

Unfortunately I'm thinking it may have to be a Google maps job as I can't think of a way to at least get a fullscreen version of it which you could just print screen.

You can make a big jpg from it.
If you want to embed the live map you are stuffed though.

Yeah, I did think of that, in fact I did go ahead and do that, but I didn't post it because, well, look at it; doesn't look do great and the controls/buttons are visible.

You can get a bit more details by clicking on "Show trip route"...

You can make it bigger, but it's a bit tedious. In Firefox or Chrome, type F12 to bring up the developer pane, select the Console tab, and enter this:

Code:
$('div.map').css({width: 500, height: 500})

This makes the map bit 500x500 pixels. Make it as large as you want it by changing the numbers.

The map itself is composed via javascript. There's a URL for the data points, and a separate javascript widget that uses Bing maps to add the data points. It's not completely trivial to repackage to put somewhere else - there could be licensing problems, for one.
