cctv camera quality?

anyone in the house that understands cctv?

basically bought a DVR with 2 cameras.

cameras are 380 tvl (what ever that means)

1/3" Color CMOS Image Sensor.
3.6mm Wide Angle Lens.
Minimum Illumination 0 Lux (IR On).

im using cat5 with baluns, so i didn't have to run coax all over my garden

connected them all up to test everything worked but really disappointed in the camera quality

is it poor because im using baluns or is it just the cameras are pants?

380tvl is a pretty low resolution, more or less the lowest you can get for cctv so won't help. There may also be problems with using cat5, can't remember the required resistance for a camera off the top of my head.

i thought as much (about the camera quality), the whole kit was £60 so not exactly pricey or anything

will try an find some better cameras

I've got cameras at my property recording my car because fucktards keep reversing into it and it's gettng random scratches . Anyway, they are 420 TVL and tbh they are poor. I mean, it does the job, I can see who's around etc but it isn't good enough to read number plates etc. They say at least 800 TVL is ideal so that's next on my shopping list.

You could add 600 TV lines to your existing wiring.Buying higher quality cameras also extends the night vision ability.
