What would the BCF masses go for out of the two?

Personally, I prefer the more upright riding position of the ER6N for everyday use. I imagine there are others that prefer the XJ6 too. Depends on what youre looking for?

The XJ5N is a good upright bike. 4 cylinders so nice and smooth. A bit heavy taking it off the stand but when moving its more agile than an agile thing and can be thrown around like a 125.

The ER6 is a parallel twin and a little lumpier at slow speeds. You have to match the gears with the speed more. (I've been down to 19mph in 6th on the XJ before it struggles).

Ether way, both good bikes and both workhorses. Personally. Having ridden both. I prefer the XJ. It looks nicer, its smoother and when you get up into the 7K+ rev range it has a fantastic sound.

Personally I'd go for the XJ6N if it's the newer version. ER6 has too much of a riding school reputation to it, more so than the XJ6.

I would go for the one I found more comfortable to ride.

Best advice is to ride both and see which you prefer Rolling Eyes

I found the ER6N unpleasant to ride at low speeds, not difficult but just a bit rough. Also found it uncomfortable. I wouldn't want to own one.

Not ridden the XJ but aesthetically I don't like... looks like an old mans tragic attempt at looking cool.

do you really need more than 50hp?? probably not,
do you want a bike that you can easily do 120 with some left?
may be Very Happy

i'd still go for the er6n despite it being clearly the lesser bike
im comfortable enough to realise that more hp doesnt make me automatically a better rider Wink

My ER6f would do just over 130 (satnav), the fairing might make a difference to that though. Also the stock power is claimed to be 71bhp..

You'll want to let Yamaha and Kawasaki know that they're both lying then.

XJ6 = 57.0 kW (77.5PS) @ 10,000 rpm

ER6n = 53 kW (72.1 PS) @ 8,500 rpm

Is the ER6 a lesser bike than a budget XJ6 Yamaha though?

I can't help think that if I had an XJ6 I would always be longing for the much more fun, exciting and hooligan FZ6 with a less emasculated R6 engine, and a far better chassis and suspension spec?

The ER6 is a good enough bike IMO, but the problem with it is that many riders and many new riders schooled on 4pot engines, don't like the lumpier feel of a parallel twin?

A bland IL4 is just as bad as an SV650 of which the ER6 is Eon's ahead of IMO.

Come down to Portsmouth and have a try and hooliganing mine around. You'd be surprised.

To settle Roger and Hmmz. The XJ6 has 78BHP.

It is a more downtuned version of the FZ6 engine which is in turn downtuned from an R6 but, and even the owner of the FZ6 said mine felt faster and more fun to ride than his.

Linking directly to Yamaha's specifications didn't settle it? Glad you could help. Rolling Eyes

You're welcome. Besides mine has 78.2bhp. Pinky farts add that little bit more.

I've got an '07 ER6F had it 5 years now, got it for £2500 less than two years old, 4000 miles, You'e got to rev 'em, big 'bore'/short stroke engines don't like being slogged at low revs, 100mph is nothing, it'll storm past it, 50+ mpg, handles great, they're a lot better than you'd think !.

Old one is more tame than the newer shape. Both great fun and extremely agile. If I had to chose I would rather have the older one. I do not think I could live with the newer version for a long time. It's a little twitchy. Reminds me of a jack russel puppy, it just wants to play. The old shape I really enjoyed. Enough hooligan to get into trouble but easy to get out of it again.

I did my DAS on an XJ6 fun yet forgiving enough, exhaust was cosmetically challenged.

Ended up with an FZ6 as the riding position suits me better

was a learner on a diversion, was quick and smooth but it hurt my wrists pretty bad being leant over. sounded like an angry wasp at full chat.

I Bought an er6f as my big boy bike. the er6f sounds like a sewing machine but is more upright, comfier and feels torquier, i felt the diversion had to be revved harder to get more out of it
