This is my first post so hi and thanks in advance for any help...
My bike has a digital display that usually says cold until it gets to 36 degrees then its displays the temp 37 38 39 ect up to 100.
How ever i recently drained coolant to do a leakdown test and since refilling its saying cold even when its red hot.
Early it went from cold to 50 although meant to start displaying temp at 36 then when it hit 58 it started saying cold again.
Any ideas what i could check ? the temperature sensor wire is connected to sensor

You could try to:
boil a cuppa, remove the sensor, turn the ignition on and submerge your sensor in the hot cup of water Smile

The thermostat opens after the temp says its fairly high, like 50-60ish I can't recall. When it gets that warm and it opens a rush of water gets pumped round which might explain the cooler reading.

That was my original thought to be honest.
But usually the temperature starts displaying from 36 and now it says cold until 50 ??

So I assume you don't own a multimeter? you could check the resistance values of the sensor when submerged in hot water that would tell you if the sensor is going bad.

No worries. Multimeter is a life saver trust me, if you want to check anything from a battery to a sensor having one is really useful.

You can get a good one for £10

It could also be that you have air locked the system.

Take the rad cap and expansion cap off. start the bike and squeeze the rubber pipes to make sure all the air is out and that the fluid gets warm.

Have you undone the air bleed screw by the spark plug? Take it out and wait till coolant starts to come out, then nip it up

Im pretty sure theres no air in there the way i fill it is i keep pouring in the coolant with the screw out of the rad once it starts pouring out i put screw in then i do same with the bleed screw by spark plug once its pissing out of there i nip it up and fill to max line.
I did start it up for 2 mins with no coolant in there other day dont know if that could damage the sensor ?
Reason i started it was fitted new 34mm carb flat side racing carb and italjet reed block and was just checking it ran ok
