Will be looking to buy my next bike soon, not looking for a sports bike but a sports-tourer type thing would be good.

Used to like bandits but they bore the shit out of me to look at now. Something in between upright and sportsbike with good comfort for a pillion would be good.

Doing my DAS but only after something in the 600cc region.

Second hand, not looking to spend more than about 1.5k and I am not against any sort of make.

Not a big fan of the overly retro looking square headlighted bikes though.

ZZR 600 Comfortable, 99BHP and your budget would get a nice one.

CBR or ZZR - both 600s.

Personal experience of the ZZR - budget for a new rear shock or look for one with an aftermarket already.

ZX6R J/A Thumbs Up

Best all round bike I've ever had. I've been to Scotland and Wales on it many times and it was perfect for the job.

I wouldn't fancy going to Scotland of my Fireblade.

I did my MOD2 test and training on the ER6 - I liked it.

If you can get one for 1.5k though, it'll probably be a dog.

My thoughts exactly. Sad Just focus on the body type and handlebars, I like the sporty looking body with the not so sporty handlebars. I had a shot of my mates ZZR 900 and it wasn't quite as nimble as I'd like my bike to be.

Appreciate the help!

ZZR900?! now I've definitely not heard of that before! The ZZR6 is a bullet and very quite underrated IMO. The CBR6 is supposedly a little more nimble.

Sporty looking but not at the same time? the SV's look sporty but I think they're a bit more leany forward than an ER6.

Suggestion - go to a used dealers and sit on everything. Get your feet up on the pegs and see how you sit Smile Different bikes sit different people differently. Different.

Probably the best advice. Might have been a ZZX900, it looks exactly like the ones popping up on google images and was one heavy bastard of a bike.

Do you mean the ZX9R or the GPZ9?

You should be able to get a good VFR750 for that.

Yeah the VFR is nice, I think I am hoping for too much with my budget.

I really like the naked, street fighterish look over sports bikes (big change from a year ago).

I'm 6 foot 4, so no restrictions as far as bike size goes. I mostly just want;

To be able to take a pillion have her not moan
To be comfortable
To be able to modify the bike
To not handle like a bus

The 900 would be the ZX9R different bike to the ZZR. 9R is a fairly hunched over position, ZZR has higher bars, comfier seating position.

ZZR looks like this, though your money buys one less super-shite and scruffy than mine

While I know someone tall who rides a zzr600, I'm 6 ft 2 and my knees can start to stuffed on longer rides, though I managed the trip to Wales and back. Deffo get some sat on!

I'd go for the ZZR1100 rather than the 600 personally.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kawasaki-ZZR1100-D1-Black-Excellent-condition-May-Part-exchange-classic-or-ER6F-/191436407243?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item2c927fc1cb

If you want a big naked, well it won't be a sport tourer for a start. Laughing

And there isn't a lot around in your price range TBH

The humping bunnies and AK-cat must bump the price up a bit though.

Was a ZX9R then. Felt like turning would be no problem as long as the turn radius wasn't far off 10degrees. Razz

Not much help, but I managed to get CBR600F for not loads over a grand (from a fellow BCFer).

I supppse what I'm saying keep is an eye on the for sale section and see what comes up. I wasn't looking for a CBR, just needed a winter hack and hopefully a year or more cheap riding.

Been looking at bikes myself between 1500 and 2500 and at 1500 old zzr's cbr's seem the best unless you want an oldish fazer or bandit, which it seems you don't.
Once you get into the £1800-£2000 range the choice of bikes opens up a bit.
Z750 is a great bike.Have one myself but you're probably looking at 2k for a decent one.

Nah see Fazers I like, sporty with the option to remove the fairing and go for the sports naked look. Is sports naked a class of bike? If so, that's what I'm after.

Just called naked.

Unfortunately seems to encompass anything from a proper sports bike without fairings all the way down to a lowly commuter.

Anyway, hornet. Slightly detuned for more midrange, older CBR engine, cheap to buy/own and they look nice. IIRC older models have a 16 inch front wheel which limits tyre choice.

Bandit 1200.

Haters gonna hate, but that engine is lovely. It's producing sub 100bhp inline with a lot of the 600's you're looking at but it produces a really nice torque spread which makes it a pleasure to ride on the road.

Massive aftermarket support too, however it does worry me slightly that you've not even done your test yet one of the categories for buying a bike is to modify it Thinking

Is it true that the Z750 has something wrong with the steering/front suspension? Can't remember where I read it or exactly what the issue was but most people seemed to agree it wasn't the most user friendly bike. Could just be the earlier models.
