I don't generally like people.
That said, I have one or two true friends.
They're as nuts as me.
Oh, the wife says I like her. I'm not convinced.

Got loads of mates, not really any close friends.
The only person that won't let me down is me.
Even then ... ... sometimes I piss myself off.
Sometimes gets kind of lonely, the phone rarely rings, and even then it's usually family (or ex's ... !) - and I've even pretty much distanced my family, apart from my daughter and my current bloke. Hopefully they'll stick around, but who knows.
Of course, I could get off my fat arse and go hang out with people. They might even be pleased to see me, but I never believe that's going to be the case, they'll not think I have anything interesting to say or contribute ... so I just don't go. ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

First type. I deal with a lot of people all the time but I can count on one hand those who are actual friends rather than acquaintances you see daily due to pure circumstance.
I see it as like you got your drinking buddies, fuck buddies, hobby-oriented buddies (ooo biker friends! ), other circumstantial day-to-day "buddies" such as uni classmates & work colleagues, then you got actual friends who've been there with you from DAY FAM INIT WE ROLL HARD DOE YA GET ME SPUD DAT SAFE. |

Lots of mates but only a few hand picked friends I've known for decades. Two of which I see most weeks.
My best friend is my partner...Unless it goes tits-up.
Honorary mention to my Sister.
Most of us get to one of the bi-annual meetups where most get wrecked and make music..well I say music..sometimes it's more like a screaming therapy session.
It's weird meeting your friend's friend for the first time...In a good way. ____________________ Diabolical homemade music Bandcamp and Soundcloud

About five good mates, see 3of them once or twice a month, another mate is in a band/gigging so see him mainly at pubs/bars fri/sat nights or at family BBQ's in summer etc. The other good mate has moved down south west, so I get 2-3 little holidays by the sea a year, and sea fishing, mountain biking and Cornish pasties!
2 close female friends, one I see every around 2weeks for a night out/in, but it's not enough!
Otherwise, I have a couple of old drinking mates from way back that I rarely see, 2blokes at work I occasionally go mountain biking with, a tuned car nut mate again I rarely see, and a bloke at work I sometimes go to watch the footy with if I'm really bored!
I have no biker mates left now except my dad, as they all either sold up, married with kids or moved away. I sometimes miss ride outs in summer, but then I don't ride big bikes anymore or are seriously into biking, more than talking about them!
Come to think of it I have no course fishing mates either now, but I like sitting by the canal on my own, mountain biking on my own, and riding silly smoky 125's by myself too! |

I'm pretty comfortable with my own company, but it would be good to have a couple more people who I could just call up to hang out with. |
I found that it was difficult to have mates outside of the forces when I was in. You're away too much, so that when you get back home on leave they've all been doing things you weren't a part of, and they can't click with the life you've been living. This must be doubly so for guys who've been out in the sand-box. How can a civvy relate to what you've been seeing and doing?
I did manage to keep a couple of good mates at home for a while, whom I'd met long before I joined up. We were all bike and rock music nuts (some of them were just nuts ), and we'd still go get pissed and ride like crazy when we actually met up again, but after a few years, they all drifted off to pastures new.
Nowadays, hardly anyone at the moment. The guys I value as best friends now I met through the Fazer forum, so we only tend to meet in the summer on ride outs. I left everyone I knew behind when I moved here to Oxfordshire, and I haven't put any roots down here, cos I knew I wouldn't be staying here forever. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017
