Link?

The thought of a jacket (I'm guessing motorcycle jacket with "CE" armour) for £17 scares me.

A pair of forcefield inserts costs more than that...

I wouldn't expect anything at all from a £17 jacket. Not even pockets and a zip.

For 17 quid I'd expect a jacket to beat me up in a dark alley and do things to my unconscious back door.

I think you need to decide how much your body is worth, before deciding how much money to spend on protecting it.

They probably need some time to collect enough scraps from the sweatshop floor.

The best bike related purchase I've made to date is a Frank Thomas jacket with full (removable) armour, 100% waterproof and extremely warm (tested over 1 winter, on 2nd now), very good quality material and stitching, no tears, splits or signs of wear, been wearing it almost everyday since I got it... and all for the sum of £35.

^This. People really need to get past this idea that bike gear is a magical panacea that absolves you of all potential harm, and get on with improving their defensive riding technique.

Yes but even if my defensive riding was as good as it could practically be, I still wouldn't want the last line of defence to be a £17 jacket.

Defensive riding is only one line of defence.
Good clothing/equipment is another.

Its not an invincibility suit, but good kit does make a big difference.

To add to the point, no amount of defensive riding and awareness can prevent someone taking you out from the side or from behind. So best be prepared with the best kit you can practically afford.

Must stop doing that Very Happy Wink

Unless £17 jackets are de rigueur uniform for spotting rent boys nowadays.

The boots were apparently the thing that caused me to break my ankles as they compressed and being rather metal based, crushed them. However, the outcome with trainers would have meant no feet. Laughing

Exactly, in a very small proportion of accidents, good kit can cause the injuries you suffer or make them worse than lesser or no kit.

But that's like not wearing a seatbelt because there is a chance it'll trap you in a burning car... the pos massively outweigh the negs

Seat belts are overrated.

Can you tell me how many people died pre-seat belts?

About 105 billion people died before seatbelts became compulsory in 1983.

Only around 1.5 billion people have died since 1983....

Now will you wear a seatbelt?

Without bothering to look I can say you have crashed as recently as 2012.
