I have high bp, no tablets, just a massive change to my lifestyle. Trying to minimise stress (this morning was high * lar * ious ...) change of diet and lots of relaxing excercise like walking the dogs. Mum and dad both have high bp, not great but definitely something that can be managed.

I beg to differ, a person with high blood pressure might drop a GS.
I'm thinking something more relaxing, armchair like and with a reverse gear beckons.
So Honda Goldwing it is then Thumbs Up Very Happy

My blood pressure is absolutely fine until I walk through the door of the doctor's surgery, then it rockets.

I have a touch of white coat syndrome, and didn't even realise it until I had to have my blood pressure checked a few times.

Both sides of my family have high blood pressure, so I'm sure it will head my way in time.

Mine is ok, until I get annoyed by something someone at work, making my life more difficult and asking me to do different things for different people all at the same time.

Been collapsing unconscious or feeling like I might do a bit too much lately too!

Didn't think about the headaches, but am definitely having more of those again. I don't want another 2months off with stress like last year as nothing changed afterwards, and I got put on medication for 12months that was a bastard when I decided to come off it.

I have managed to avoid the tablets so far, despite my humungously risky BMI.

One of my GPs, a singularly deaf old duffer, insists on using an old manual sphygmo with a normal arm cuff, and pumping it up by hand.

Despite me telling him that everybody else in the world except him use a wider cuff, he insists on using the small cuff. And then tells me to take blood pressure tablets, and writes me a prescription.

So I go back to the other GP, bitch about the deaf old cunt and the smart one puts the automatic sphygmo on with a bigger cuff ... usually its slightly high (like 145/105) and he says "lose some weight and come back in a month, I'll measure it a couple of times, and we'll see if you need the tablets".

Which I do, and he does, and I don't.

Cool Thumbs Up

I have white coat syndrome. My blood pressure goes high at doctors. Doctor does blood pressure check and says I have high blood pressure. Rolling Eyes

We have worked out that it drops sufficiently if he presses the button on the machine and then exits the room, stage left. That way I am apparently "upper edges of normal". Laughing

Pffft...call that high, try 210/175 Razz

Also found out that I've got an enlarged heart and my cholesterol results were equally as dire. Sad

Anyway op, exercise is undoubtedly the best route to getting it down but, for some of us, that's easier said than done. When I first got my results, about 18 months ago, I was really good, especially with my food intake and I practically cut out all fat from my diet. However, I must admit that I've slipped back to my old ways over time.

I was a little peeved when I found out too, as I've been a strict veggie most of my life.

How can you have a height ration over 100% of the width? Laughing Laughing

I don't have high blood pressure, but my best friend has just died at the age of 37 due to several reasons, one being high blood pressure.

He was already in the morbidly obese category over 20 stone and because of this had an enlarged heart and many other complications.

I know it is not easy to lose weight, but a change in diet and some exercise will help to bring the blood pressure down. Those who are a bit heavier I can only advise small changes because like my buddy, at 37, it's too young to die. Crying or Very sad

Just read the thread - and then measured my BP. 156/89
Yes, a bit on the high side and I do take Ramipril 10mg in morning then Amlodipine 5mg at night + statin but cholesterol is low anyway (less than 3). Agewise in my low 70s.

Doc says "slight high" and not to worry just do not put the weight back on. I was 86kg and am now 74kg just by eliminating much direct sugar intake. I'm 6ft and do not drink or smoke. I do have "other" vices but I'm not going into details other than to say I get some exercise Rolling Eyes from that but that is the only exercise
