I've got my Honda S-Wing listed for sale on Gumtree and today I received a text message asking if I could email him my lowest price

I got this reply:

"Thanks mate for your details, the asking price & conditions is ok
l'm buying it for my son as a gift ,I won't be able to Inspect due to
the nature of my work overseas, would 've love to call in person
but satellite server has been down which restrict calls,l'm presently
working on offshore as a petroleum engineering.
Regarding your payment, Plz get back to me with your paypal
details in order for me to make payment to you cos that my only
method of payment, my courier will contact you for pick it up and
deliver it in my place after payment has been made to you.

What are the reasons for selling it ? would appreciate if you can
email me any pictures of it (if available) , Plz send me your paypal
details to send funds to you ASAP."

Do you reckon this is a scam??

Ha I thought it just seemed weird but not out of the realms of possibility as I've been looking at bikes for sale recently and plenty of dealers offer nationwide delivery so maybe some people do buy blind!

However I've just Googled the email address aaronthomus90@gmail.com and yes indeed of course it's a scam Embarassed

I wouldn't even deal with anyone who asks me to email them my lowest price, or tries to discuss or negotiate price over the phone/email without seeing the vehicle.

You get people out there who think they are doing you a favour by buying your bike, and you should bend over backwards for them for expressing an interest.

I actually like ebay in some ways, as you bid you buy!

With this scam, you'll receive a fake PayPal email that looks quite legit. It will say on it - "We have £[bike price] waiting for your collection, but for us to release the funds to you, you must send us £400 via Western Union."

As long as you're not a total muppet, you'll realise it's a scam at this point and laugh it off. It's not like they can do anything with just your paypal email address anyway, other than send you money.

Notice how the buyers' email makes no mention of what it actually is that your selling? The same email could be used for scamming someone selling anything from a space hopper to a grand piano.
