Hello All

Getting tired of the Varadero, I am digging the V-Twin engine though.

Thinking about putting a deposit down for that NTV (If I am allowed) and wondering what people think of them? I would be looking to keep it for a very long time for that price.

I doubt there's another ntv600 in the country in as good a condition as that one, so it's hard to say it's outright too expensive for what it is, but, you can get way way more bike for your money elsewhere.

Unless you particularly wanted an ntv for some reason I would find it incredibly hard to justify splashing out £2.5k on one.

As for ntv6's in general I really enjoyed mine, it did me very well considering how badly it was mistreated. But then, I paid £300 for it!

So would it be worth waiting and getting one with say 15-25000 miles on the clock for considerably less, would that be just as good?

I would like an NTV particularly yes, the only reason I would consider this is I need a reliable bike for long term.

That looks a nice clean bike to be honest.
If your happy to pay the money for that bike then do it, as you said you need a bike for long term. The choice at the end of the day is yours.
You could pay less money and get a bike that's always breaking down or you could pay less money and get a really nice one. Some people never pay more than a few hundred quid for a bike on here and always seem to get ones that last well.
At the end of the day if that's the sort of bike you want and are happy paying that for it then go for it.

Try not to forget it's a 21 year old commuter bike, as you drool over a 21 year old commuter bike.

That's a lot of money for an NTV but if that's what you want then I doubt you will find a cleaner example, it's your choice but 2.5 k would buy a newer model

I think thats my old bike, cant remember the reg for the life of me but how many mint ntv's with 5000odd miles and a givi rack can there be? If it is I bought it 7 years ago with 1100 miles on it for £500 from its original owner (never put it in my name) then sold it for £1800 with just under 5000 on it.

Its over priced. I bought my 2003 CBR for less.

The fact it has the original shorty exhaust (which rots) puts me off somewhat.

Plus I forget but doesn't Honda do a 20 year after end of production parts production? In that parts may be harder to find in the very near future.

I'd rather spend the money on something newer, something like a V-Strom if you like v-twins.

Either that or you can pick up a gladius for 3k.

Personally I wouldn't just choose a bike based on it being a v-twin "because you're 125 was a v-twin", explore what's out there.[/code]

Probably not, but perhaps more deserving of the classic moniker than some of the crap seen advertised at over-inflated prices, just because it's of a certain age or there aren't that many left around.

If it's a good, reliable bike that does well the job it was designed to do, perhaps does it better than others in it's time and class, then yeah, why not classic? But I have no idea personally if the NTV fits that description!

Not that i'm mega experienced with buying/selling bikes being a new rider n all, but i'd class NTVs are cheap knockabouts personally and wouldn't like to spend much more than a grand on one.

Why not something a bit fruitier? a mate of mine got a silver naked SV1000 for two grand earlier this year, in great nic, easy to ride and plenty quick enough when wanted.

I quite like the look of Yammy TDM 850 if you wanted something similar to the Vara, they tend to be around 15-1600 for a decent one.

Two grand you can get into tidy VFR territory for that as well... just throwing that out there.

I suppose the benefit of the NTV is its old tech, cheap parts, less computers and easy to work on compared to a more recent bike.

But horses for courses, looks like a nice clean bike and if you got the dough then why not. Thumbs Up

Used 2 or three when I was despatching, good work horse, took over from the CX500 as the courier bike of choice along with the VT500.

Way over priced IMHO.

I wouldnt buy one to be proud over.

They are just a tool, like a washing machine, or a fridge, it serves a purpose and thats it.

For the money they are asking, you could buy a 'less mint' NTV and get a bike to love and cherish.

Bought mine for £250, replaced the carbs for deauville ones, put some tyres and fork seals on it, serviced it, then plastered it in ACF50. Now I just ride it till the next consumable item needs replacement or service time comes around.

Best bit about it, is getting off it in the better weather and back on the ZRX. Feels like a fast bike all over again. Laughing

OK, so NTV's are good for the purpose but don't spend 2.5k on one...

gotcha, I'll wait around a bit longer and see if there are any low-mileage abused ones around... in the meanwhile I'm on the lookout for a CBF250 to swap for my Varadero, I fancy a Single cylinder again.

My next bikes choice at this point is:

NTV650 (hopefully un-restricted licence soon) they sound like they will do many miles without fuss.

CBF250 Lightweight single that seems to get cheaper every-time I look at them

If anyone has one or knows of one that could be swapped for a Varadero 125, let me know.

As said by others, that is probably the best condition one you're going to find but don't spend that much money. If I had that kind of money that I wanted to spend on an old "commuter" type bike I would probably be looking at BMW boxer twins.

Rather than just looking out for the specific model you want, I personally think you would be better off deciding on your budget and do an Ebay/Gumtree search for all nearby bikes (whatever distance you're willing to travel). That way you will probably realise you can get much more for your money and will likely come across models you hadn't considered before.
